Vinyl wrapping a fuel tank would be a very hard job to get right. A really clever person, with 3 pairs of hands, a heat gun and a lot patience MIGHT be able to do it.
Mask and paint = much easier.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

I've clear vinyl'd the sides, front and top of a tank before. Fully agree much easier, but cost wise...probably a fair bit more...though how much would one realistically pay to just get the top 1/2 or so of a tank painted red, possibly the dent knocked out if I go with the already damaged tank? and then 20$ or so for honda wings

By clear vinyl, do you mean the anti-scuff stuff? Which you would have put on in shaped pieces.
I'm assuming you want to apply vinyl so that it looks like paint? ie - no joins etc. This is the problem on an object like a tank...all those compound curves. Vinyl will stretch and conform, but only up to a point. Starting with a largish single piece of coloured signwwriters vinyl, chances are, you will need to cut away some of the 'spare' vinyl, which means you have an overlap join somewhere/s on the tank.
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Hi!
Actually applying vinyl to the tank is somehow easy to do, with no over lapping, and would cost less than paint plus it wont scratch and peel off like most spray paints do.
1M of matte black x 1.2M sheet will cost about $36.60 (including GST) and that is more than enough to wrap a whole tank, with some left overs to do smaller pieces.
To wrap a whole tank will take about 1-2 hours.
Only thing when wrapping gas tank, make sure you clean any Petrol drops straight away DO NOT LEAVE THEM THERE, it will reduce the life of your wrap.

PM me if you need any help and guide regarding wraps.
    Cheers!

    Hey Luke.

All the vinyl you need is available from Signwriters or Signwriting Supplies in Petone, just look in the phone book.

Have a go yourself or get a pro to do it. Simple stuff is easy enough to do with a spray bottle of soapy water, a hairdryer, towels and maybe a rubber squeege and patience. A tank requires a bit more expertise if you want to cover the whole thing.

Henshaw Signs in Porirua are experts and VMCC sponsors and will do you a good deal.

Call Mark Henshaw and tell him what you want to achieve.
