Same rules for NZ and China?

My impression is that a New Zealand entity (individual or company) is not allowed to buy land in China but a Chinese entity may buy land in New Zealand. Is that true, and if it is, does it make any sense? Surely the rules should be consistent across countries. If they can buy ours, then we can buy theirs, or if we can't buy theirs, then they should not be able to buy ours.

Don't think so?? Our company (although Singapore owned) has purchased land and property in China over the last couple of years. may be wrong though??
