Some of the updates brick the unit.

Still I would have to agree mostly the consoles are plug and play, which is why I currently have a ps3. But I am seriously considering going back to PC play.

Drivers and game Patches are two completely different things......

Both of which you still have PC anyway.
FWIW, I'd go PS3. i use it for games maybe once a month, but as a media server on a daily basis.

    I disagree.

Every second or third time I go to play a game on my PS3, it requires another 45 minute update. Put the disc in and play my arse... put the disc in and wait wait wait wait... at least on a PC there is a button to skip the update. You remember when you gave me the 787 right?

I expect when the PSN comes back, it'll be some 2-3 hour download which will be forced on me, unless I figure out which menu item to disconnect the net, or worse, have to do it by pulling the cable... but I won't have enough space on the PS3 to get it... but it won't let me delete stuff... unless I login as the specific user that last used the PlayTV to delete their files, etc etc etc...

The PS3 is just a pain in the arse.

Actually, no, the Apple-esque Sony jump through the hoops how I tell you bullshit is the pain in the arse, the PS3 itself is lovely, cheap and quiet with wireless controllers. It does lots of things ok, but for gaming, I'll take a PC any day.

    You are fucking joking right?

Given their closed platform, that is 100% completely unacceptable. Fuck Sony (and I don't even care one iota about the PSN fiasco).

    Arrrrhhhhh....

    The age old arguement.

People that whine about controllers need to research, there are adapters.
Even mouse/keyboard options for those that like that.

I prefer my PS3 as it has more to offer me. (Killzone 3 is 3D)

Xbox for Forza only!!! Was extremely disappointed in GT5
    Forza 3 > GT5

Has Xbox got 3D games yet?

But a fantastic warranty scheme. On xbox no.3 now........never paid a single $ after first one......Seem to fail after 2-3 years unless you have an additional fan setup.

Current one does have the add. fans and is on year 3 now.

Sit down and look at what games you want to play. Pretty much dictates the console as one will have a game you want and the other wont.

Game wise I prefer the games on xbox360.........but I prefer the PS3 console.
Got the 360 because it made financial sense ($300 last time I checked) and if your only using it to play games on a normal TV.

However if you have the flashest 50" with awesome surround sound......lets just say money is not your objective. You would be looking at PS3 for the "drinking games" and a Alienware PC for the real gaming.

Yeah, but at some times they have access to tech you can't get anywhere else... e.g. Weren't they first off the block with Quad SLI for a wee while due to licensing?

I was very excited about getting a PS3 but then I played GT5 and couldn't believe how shit it was. A complete joke, what were they doing the whole time developing that?

Had a 360 since it came out and never had any hardware failure or any of that rubbish, so with Forza and BC2 to play there is no point in a PS3 for me for the time being.

I did wonder the same thing myself... until I was shown that Red Bull Cup car

    Fun times for sure...

I'm not really qualified to comment though I guess, I'd only play a game once a month if that. Mostly because I can't be bothered waiting for the PS3 to update itself every time. I've been told I can disconnect the net via a menu option somewhere, but the wife uses it to watch TVNZ On Demand and I'm not going to inconvenience her (by forgetting to set it back) just so I can play some second rate console action.
