Rossi not going to F1?

Just read this on MCN, and thought some of you might be interested:

Valentino Rossi, no fan of the pre-race press conference, enlivened the Assen Q&A session by announcing that there was no way he would be going to Formula1. When asked how he saw his future in F1, he replied. "I don't see any future, I'll be staying in bike till I quit. I can't remember the last time I watched an F1 race. I don't see the way the sport is that I would get any satisfaction from it. The only thing the drivers do is drive the car to the start line." Ouch!

Rossi, whose contract with Yamaha is up the end of the year, reckoned that he would go for one-year contracts from here on in. "The thing that I like is developing a bike and winning with it and the team. When I stop enjoying that, then I'll quit and go for a quiet life. I know I tried rally driving but to go from the ultimate in two-wheeled technology to a Fiat Punto isn't that appealing either, to be honest." Rossi - bikes or nothing? Oh yes and after the press conference he took his scooter out and wheelied the entire length of the Assen circuit, all 5,997 metres of it. For the hell of it, one imagines and, of course, because he can.

He's a smart cookie all right - there is no way he can get into a F1 car and win,even with a car to develope...F1 is full of has beens who are the very best drivers in the world.The chances of someone doing another Schumacher are pretty remote,that was a fluke where everything clicked into place for him and Ferrari when everything unclicked for all the other teams and drivers - it's cyclic,and sometimes all the planets line up.I'd hate to see that talent go to waste though....

Didn't he lap faster than Barrichelo when he tested for Ferrari? They also said, "He's welcome to come and see us any time", or somesuch, so don't be too quick to write him off.
I think a lot of these comments you can take with a grain of salt though. Rossi also said something along the lines of "I'm sticking with Yamaha while I'm in MotoGP", or similar, leading to speculation that after this season he was retiring and doing summat else...

F1 is the most boring form of motorsport ever! It used to be the bollox. When racing was unpredicatble, there was contact between cars without them breaking, the top 10 drivers were equally matched, the cars weren't a squillion bucks a pop and everyone was interested in the whole passion.

Now it's either Shuey wins, or takes out another car cos he can't win, and what's the next move for the FIA to fuk it up?

Nah, MotoGP is the real balls of racing. That's the pinicle of motorsport. You rock at that, you rock at everything. Period.

Hmmm, Rossi could contract himself to every team for a 12mth period to develop their bikes, WCM, Suzuki, Kawasaki, etc so all bikes are up to speed. Now that would make for interesting racing. Rossi, the MotoGP slut.

Yeah, not sure about this. I'm sure Rossi knows that he needs MotoGp to be a spectacle and be entertaining. Think even this season he's riding within himself and trying to keep the racing close and interesting. The 800cc thing may keep him interested abit longer, think Max Biaggi will end up on a Ducati next year and back on Michelins. I woulkd have loved Rossi to go to Aprilia and build a competitive bike there. Think Ducati for him would be too easy, the bikes pretty close as it is, has a shit load of power and just needs the handling sorted abit, he'd win pretty much straight out on that, at the moment.

Me Thinks the wheelie thing on the scooter is a taste of things to come. Rossi will get Jerry to squeeze the M1 motor (or whatever Yam will call it next year) into it and then use the scooter to win the 2006 MotoGP title.

On that front I'm really looking forward to this A1 leauge. It sounds bloody good. Cars in the F1 stille but all the same with only minimal tweeking alowed by the individuel teams.... And there is an NZ team and the rumors has it that a race might (yes...i know...only "might") come to little NZ
