Accepting online payments - who do you use?

We have a lot of grief with collecting payments we do for foreign companies for services that we offer. Often it’s not that they don’t want to pay, but that they have trouble doing an international payment, or executing it correctly (correct currency, handling bank fees, etc).

With this in mind, I would like to consider being able to accept credit cards, and having the foreign companies pay by credit card. There will be a very small number of transactions, maybe 2 per month.

I was thinking that one of these online payment gateways might be the way to go because of the low number of transactions.

Who would you recommend?

Alot of people use the classic Paypal, I have tried Paymex they seem alright since the new company took it over.

Forget Credit Cards for that many transactions, to many fraudulent ones on the international scene anyway, not to mention the fees and other crap i.e if the goods arent supplied withing 35 days the customer can apply for money back without consultation, which is an issue if you make Custom gear.
Go for Paypal I say thats all I will use from now on Visa can go fuck them selves.

+1 for Paypal,been buying and selling stuff for years and never once a problem,very fast and you can easily follow every transaction.

we accept Paypal only for all international orders, simple and easy to use but a bit pricey in there merchant fees, but much safer for you than using a NZ based processor that as Quasi said above is not very safe on your part,

a couple of bike shops have been caught in the past with big overseas transactions off stolen cards, that were shipped when money cleared, but then the CC companies took back the money at a later date

Paymex has a really easy one-off type setup that you can use to generate links that you simply email to clients. They click on the link, opens your browser to a page with all the payment details are there and they just put details in and are done. Currency conversion and all that is taken care of (at the payers expense) and then paymex take ~3% commission.

Paymex has been under 3 lots of new management over the last 5 years or so. Apparently the last two times it changed ownership none of its users lost any money.

PayPal has some horror stories out there too though.

You obviously have a lot of experience in this area. Can you get Paypal to automatically DC a NZ bank account, or does it sit in their account and you have to withdrawal it?

I would prefer a system where the funds turn up automatically in our bank account, so we can process the transactions like all other transactions we get.

Yeah you basically withdraw the funds from your paypal account to your nominated NZ Bank Account, it isnt instant but it does go through in a few days max in my experience.
its a good system and havent been able to fault it as yet

as Quasi says above, they only charge you to take out less than $150 i think, we have it linked into our website so it is easy, you do get a few timeout type errors on the back end, but Paypal confirm the money through very instantly, also refunds are handled very well when you need to do them
