    Young riders at track days

My 13 yr old son is interested in track days and possibly racing. I've seen a few young riders at Hampton downs ride days recently. Does anyone have any thoughts or knowledge on how best to introduce a young lad to track riding ?

He's a pretty handy trail rider with 8 years experience and progressing well and he fancies a go at a track day in the next year or so. Cheers

FYI, our only requirement (apart from all the gear etc) would be an MNZ licence, then Darren is usually quite happy to take them out and help them settle in.

As Little Miss Trouble said - Darren and Rach at Hampton Downs Ride Days are the best people. They've been mentoring a couple of young guys including the younger Hassan kid and I tell you - that kid is going to be AWESOME!

Go speak to the local motorcycle club, theyll have other youngsters involved in racing etc, and will probably also be able to give you a line on a decent second hand trackbike suitable for your boy. Then get him along to a few, feed his appetite for it.

Great to see a dad getting involved and getting his boy into it.
Could be some awesome father son bike time coming your way!!

Another fellow you can contact goes by the web name of "Tonto" @ www.gtamotorcycles.com He has a young kid about the same age that has been racing for a few years. I know he also mingles with a lot of the other parents that have kids involved in motorcycling in North America.

I forgot to mention, you might also want to get your hands on a copy of Road Racing Worlds 2011 Trackday Directory.

There is a great article in there about getting kids started. Also, there are various other articles with regards to starting trackdays in general.

Edit actually here is a digital version:
