    Motards at kart track?

Hi guys, sorry to intrude. I've asked in motard section before but didn't receive answers so I figured asking in here would be most suitable.

I've heard you can take motards on Mt Wellington kart track. I'd like to know what the deal with this is; how much it costs, how often and how long you get to run, if there's any racing at all for these, who to contact.

Very excited to find an opportunity to run the motard in Auckland!

DOnt know about up there, but down here they do it, they run a motard class with the buckets, so you get severeal runs at it. You need to cover in nylon any surface of your bike that would come into contact with the track surface if you bin it, eg axles, poot pegs and so on, so it doesnt damage the track surface.
Contact your local bucket racers, they might be able to help you further

What Tigertim said regarding nylon, if the bike goes down no metal should be able to contact the track surface.
Other than that session will run all day with A Grade, B grade, minis, and motards depending on who has turned up.
Sessions are usually ten or fifteen minutes long and keep going in rotation from about 9:30 to somewhere betwen three and four depending on when people get bored and pack up.
Cost for the day is $20 from memory.
It is however a practice day so there is no "Official" racing and if people get too keen they'll get told to pull their heads in since we don't have a dedicated first aid person on the day.
Going by recent meetings there could be between you and up to four motards on the day.
If you need more info phone John Connor, his contact details are on the AMCC website.

Sounds awesome. I have axle sliders already so guess I just need something for pegs and bar ends. What's generally easiest way to cover them up?

When is the next chance and how often can I get down for 'one of these days'? Is it possible to just rock up at the kart track any time or just on these days? I'd be keen to go at least once a week!

Thanks and can't wait to get down there and see it all!

Next weekend Saturday. Sunday is buckets only race days.
Only can use the track on our race/practice weekends. For more information as to why, search in this forum for a thread about why we're no longer allowed to ride other times.
The dates are on the AMCC website, but generally someone will start a thread the week before. Last few practice weekends there haven't been any motards, or maybe one, it's been a bit pathetic.

I'll yell at Henk and see if he can reply about the nyloning up, I'm a factory rider - I turn up, come last and still manage to keep my ride hahaha

If you have the axles sorted, zip tie some nlyon under the pegs, preferably in such a way that they zip ties don't wear though the first time you crash. Whack a couple of plastic wine corks in the bar ends and maybe have a look at the the pipe if it likely to hit the deack.

Pegs like a motard? screw a bit of chopping board to the bottom of them. M3 screw will probably fit thru the gaps in most motard style pegs but if they don't just drill holes.

Get on the wine and save a few plastic bubbly corks for bar ends. You could make somthing sturdier and better out of Nylon or acetyl or something but bubbly tops work remarkably well.

You may have to add even more than this depending on the bike. Remember they don't always crash nicely and just slide on the obvious angles, you want to allow for it flipping around a bit too.
    If in doubt nylon it.
The Mrs's or Mums Nylon chopping board can go a long way if you are smart about it. I have found counter-bored Pop-Rivets handy for attaching chopping board.

Brilliant. Yes it's a dirt bike peg. Mitre 10 for making spare axle sliders and getting nylon stuff? Unfortunately she's only got wooden and glass chopping boards

I made most of my crash bungs from stuff I bought out of the scrap bin at Dotmar engineering.
If you get stuck for wine corks I have a few in the toolbox, raid the stash they have at the local Thai restaurant from time to time, they do tend to ony last one crash though and the nlyon stuff I have made has lasted about 13 so far.

Had a couple of post dinner scotches and have now moved onto a nice bottle of Waiheke Montepulchiano. So no, not really.
I'll bring a bottle down in a couple of weeks to see what you think, along with a couple of others, be curious to see if you rank them in the same order I do.

Brilliant. I have something for you to try too, its not aged quite as much as I would like but it's drinkable.

Yeah, engineering or industrial plastics places are the best bet for a punt first up. Try where Henk mentions first. Mitre 10 would probably be a last resort. Do get inventive, its amazing what can be whipped up out of shit lying around. Do consider abrasion resistance too.

Sounds ominous. Looking forward to it.
Ever noticed how these threads drift off topic
