There is a guy here in Chch who has a "old look new triumph" and he painted the white plate mat black and sanded the numbers back to silver and he said he has never been pulled up on them.
Just a thought![]()

Just reading in the Beaded Wheels mag - the VIntage Car Club mag - today that there is a procedure where the old B&W plates THAT BELONG TO THE BIKE can be kept and made current, so you don't have your old classic with the new rego plates. You need proof that the plates belonged to this vehicle.

That guy wouldn't be me would it?I stripped my white plate back to bare metal, painted it black, then polished the paint back off the numbers/letters so I have a nice shiny black and alloy plate. The white stuff is a bastard to get off - it's a self adhesive plastic coating, not paint, and is a gooey mess to get off.
Or if you're not as fussy about the finish, my mate did his by just painting straight over the white plate and then hitting it with a belt sander
I've got some pics somewhere of how I did mine, if you want me to hunt them out?
The views expressed above may not match yours - But that's the reason my Dad went to war - wasn't it?
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, .... but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out,... shouting "man, what a ride"!!!
Found them ...
1. As New
2. Polished
3. Painted Black
4. Finished
5. Mine on the left and the Belt Sander version on the right

I also have a plate with 666 and a couple of letters. Prob with most of these plates is that they have never been deregistered so that is prob why they are un available.
