There is a product called a "pony wrap"???? As in pony tail wrap. I saw it advertised in some bike mag years ago. Never found one but...

You are into leather stuff eh?

Tie your dreads into a ponytail. Make yourself a sheath of light leather, that encompasses the length of your dreads and that domes up around the length of your pony tail. Incorporate a hook of some type into the sheath so you can "hook" it onto the hair tie you use to make your pony tail of dreads.

Theory being that you will now have a protective sheath of leather keeping your dreads "sort of" dry. I reckon you could achieve "mostly" dry if you tie your hair up close

I believe this idea has merit. Of course it could be a little tricky putting them in the back pack and then putting the pack on your back.

Still, I am sure you could manage.

Mom's leather idea is a good one too. And would probably look cooler than the back pack. But imagine the hilarity that would ensue as you pulled all your dreads out of a lovely pink barbie backpack!!

Been reading this thread & yes there's a few good ideas but difficult answer for all, depending on your budget too have you maybe thought about cutting the sleeve off an old jacket & sewing up one end of the sleeve, tie your dreads on a double pony tail & sliding them in the sleeve? That's my 2 cents worth!

had a look at the hair socks, but no good for me, I can't have them bunched up as they are so bulky they restrict head movement. I need a way to keep them flat and fanned out. The leather wraps wont work for the same reason. thanks tho, its a good idea.

Ratti, could you not sew a long pocket on the outside of your jacket....if it starts up by the collar line and is maybe elasticated then hopefully it wouldnt fill with water and defeat the purpose

The problem with hair wraps (even if you didn't need a ponytail for them) is that water could seep into them at the top and run down.
Perhaps you could get a piece of waterproof fabric and sew it into the lining of your helmet? If it was elasticated at the bottom you could make a sort of extended hairnet/showercap. Or if it was elasticated at both ends, you wouldn't even need to sew it into the helmet (you could fit it to your head).

Cheeky bugger Murry. Im riding black again now as one of the zeds is road legal again.
Went with the bigger jacket in the end, and a bigger lid as well due to more bulk on head. Have made a wonderful discovery.. they drape down my back and tuck into the tops of my trou. And make brilliant draft excluder in this cold weather.Lovely warm strip down back of my neck, spine and around kidneys. totally reccommend it to anyone!
