I would say that the vast majority of Kiwis I know would want it discouraged for no other reason than respect for that little old lady.

IMO getting one's panties bunched up over a jesus fish on a car is about as silly as getting offended over a blasphemous hoodie.

I would not purchase or display either item. I don't know that the problem is about the language either; if the hoodie had used Shane Warne's name instead of Jesus' then the guy selling them would probably have been featured on Campbell live and the front page of the ODT as a human interest piece, with demand outstripping supply.
After which, Shane's legal team would probably cost him his business and his house.

'Jesus is a good cunt' wouldn't have got a second look.

Christians are very forgiving, quite a contrast to some other religions.

Islam for instance would not be quite so forgiving or understanding!

A bit of balance might be fatal but .... I wonder if the seller would be game to test the market?

thats it, innit? She deserves our respect, unlike the no hopers who think its cool to be offensive just for the sake of it. Some people might find my Darwin fish to be offensive just for the sake of it, and I accept that, but I think its subtle enough, and funny enough, that its OK (its got little feets!! so cute!).

    Meh.

Bollocks. All religions are intolerant of others beliefs at their core. Its what differentiates them one from the other. We have the one true answer, the others are heathen scum. Thats the message. The delivery ranges from late night american fundie televangelists, to "More tea, vicar?" but the message stays on point.

Oh, and all religions are intolerant of atheism particularly.

my SO refers to religion as "fuckwits arguing amongst themselves about their invisible friends" and that sums it up pretty well I think.

    Although, by your advocacy of Darwin, you could be construed as a "prophet" or "dreamer of dreams", there by incurring the wrath of the afore mentioned Christians;

Deuteronomy 13:9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.
What's worse? A word on a shirt or a death threat?

just to drag this back on point, I think what is deemed offensive here is the overt use of the word "cunt".

I'll take my chances, but thanks for your concern.

Just to clarify, "Darwin" in this context is a one-word talisman (make of that word what you will) for the whole of humankind's progress from single celled organism to where we are today, good and bad, and is shorthand for things like the Enlightenment, the scientific method, progress, replacing myth with reason, all that stuff: not Bronze Age superstition.

Don't make me roll out my Dawkins quotes, and my armoury of cartoons taking the piss out of religion. I dont really want to go there, but I will if I have to.

I find the converse to be just as true, if not more so. Speaking of words I had to check the meaning of, where's hitcher and his PD warning? bit overdue in here I think

What would the result be if the shirt said 'darwin is a cunt' or 'you're a cunt' I reckon it'd be the same.

There are only 3 certainties in life:
    1. Death
    2. Taxes
    3. Someone preaching to you that God can get you out of death and taxes

These shirts have been around for years. When i was at high school, the cool metal kids would wear them just for the fact that they were banned.
