I am a closet British sports car fan myself, this is a bit like going to AA and admitting you have a problem isn't it?

My first car was a Mk1 850 mini, I drove it everywhere and it fell apart in the end.

I have parked in the back of my garage a 1928 Austin 7 Ulster boat tail racing car, it has a billet machined pressure fed crank, high compression pistons, big valves and has been ported. Its running a 1 1/4 SU and has a race cam shaft. It's not finished yet but its just short of wiring.

I have a 67 Mk3 MG Midget. It's a very early one and looks more like a MK2 as it has all the extra chrome parts. I have owned it for 22 years, used at my wedding. It has positive camber front suspension, mini lites, 11/16" sway bar, urethane bushes, 1 1/2 lowered and uprated springs and shocks and a pan hard rod. When I rebuilt the motor and it was a 1275 cooper to start with, I fitted an expensive "fast road-rally" scatter cam that runs No1 & 4 cylinders at wilder valve timing because these cylinders run cooler, along with fast road med-high comp pistons, extractors and a light porting job. I have a good set of 1 1/2 SU's on the shelf to fit some time as well. It still has its original now rebuilt 4 speed close ratio gear box as I prefer this box over the jap 5 speed ones. For a 45 year old sports car it handles well and goes fast, if I do any more to this car it will involve serious cutting mods and I don't want to change this car into a race car, at Ruapuna it just does 104mph at the end of the front straight before I hit the brakes. It is still a good original unrestored Midget.

I also have my trusty ex army Series 3 Stage 1 V8 LWB Landrover. It has much better parabolic springs with a 2" lift, and Old Man Emu shocks, its running 32" BFG muds, also I fitted a LPG kit. The running gear is mostly from a range rover so it is actually a permanent 3 diff 4WD vehicle. It has diff locks and I changed the high ratio so it just purs along at 100kph to save fuel on the open road. It's otherwise set up as a hunting vehicle.

I also have a Lotus but we are just getting to know each other at the moment.

I once toured through central London as a passenger in a top-down Triumph Spitfire convertible.
They are small cars and I wish I had a photo...

The Austin 7 is not my car but mine is the same, however my car is British Racing Green with black guards. I didn't think I had any digital photos of the MG but we went away in it at Xmas, the lotus was damaged by the first earthquake and the parts took a while to turn up.

If y'all look in TradeMe in the hot-rod section you'll see a Mistral I had - it's in exactly the same condition appearance wise as when I sold it.

I'm talking real Jags - we had two Mk2's at one point - which were all imported built up. The old man worked for Motor Assemblies in ChCh which assembled Vanguards then Triumphs then moved to Nelson and assembled Triumphs and Jags - but only the XJ6 as far as I know.
A school friend's dad was ex Browns lane - brought out by Frank Cantwell to look after the Tojeiro Jag - finished up as the Foreman at Archibalds for years. He loved the Daimler V8's to get back to the original post. He thought that the lighter weight up front transformed the Mk2 chassis - I've driven both and I disagree - the better torque of the six makes a better road car for me.

I put a 4.2 engine into a 380,and converted it to left hand drive with an electric power steer rack in 06 - it was an auto and would have been a nice car if the owner didn't put some cams into it as well,it had a pretty lumpy idle.

we were just talking about british cars last week at morning tea: my business partner had a Rover SD1 (I got a speeding ticket in it: the first camera one I ever saw:boy do I look surprised... 61 in a 50 cha ching!)

I had a bunch of Morris Minors and toured the lower North Island in a Morris Traveller with woodworm and no brakes...... had Land Crabs too.

my old man had Hillman Hunters. My brother got his licence in a MINT Singer Vogue (aka Hunter) the old man had at 9.30 one morning and rolled it and wrote it off at 7pm that night.... I had a Morris minor van at one point, because I am short we could use it as a camper and shaggin' wagon...

No, I dont really miss them. Though I wouldnt mind a 1275GT Mini: a mate of mine and I drove up to Wellington (to see David Bowie IIRC) in his one, and it was pretty quick. He is one of the best drivers I've ever been with too, which helps.

I'm currently scheming for my next purchase...

Would love an X350 model XJ8 (the first of the aluminium bodied XJ Jags), but can't afford $30-$40K.

Seriously thinking about checking out this X308 XJ8 later this week:

    It up in D's patch:
