    good idea to 'podcast' KBLand..??

Apple (the Gods that they are) have now made it easier to listen/subscribe to 'PodCasts' via iTunes, which, put simply, is an mp3 file that's refreshed by the authors every so often (they decide), and the subscribers listen to the daily, weekly, monthly thing, be it music, chat, comedy, news etc.. (not selling an ad here..)..

Just thinking if we could do a vocal 'weekly' round up for KB.. then we can tune in, listen to what's gone on in the past week, and what's coming up, some light music, or do a 'best of the week' stuff, competitions, really involve the site, and get everyone from the site involved.... These podcasts then then be put onto MP3 players, like iPods (where the idea and name originated) etc, and listened to where and when ever. Can also be burnt to CD, recorded to tape etc..

Just an idea, but isn't too hard to do, and can be made by almost anyone with a mic and some recording software, and throw a little music in, and bingo - KBLand Radio is born..

not in the last few days, nope.
My job title has changed to 'chief intermaweb researcher'.. for a limited time anyway. My job is like a rollercoaster. Not to be confused with actually being a rollercoaster. Which too, would have its ups and downs.. I just have a quiet period.

lamo... and the only thing left to ride is the biffbike..?

k, back to podcasting.. kinda interested on this..

One issue is they can be a little large in file size, so it isn't really aimed at dialup users, unless you don't mind it downloading over night, or if you can get it from work and listen to it later or during.. Can be way in excess of 50mb of a file. Can make them smaller, which means shorter broadcasts, or do two versions - a full and a brief show (not underwear catwalk stuff)..

could run 'ads' or 'specials' too from shops and sponsors, for a small fee. The fee would go to the small costs of the 'radio' 'casts and the rest to Spank for the site..

Too small an audience for the overheads.
Apart from than - a majority of it would be dead boring.
Have you not listened to Biff?

the overheads are almost zip. extra bandwidth and server space at best.
Audience size? dunno. Had thought it might be a bit small, but also thought it'd be something different while away from the computer or while you work or something.. or like SC, all bed-ridden for a while.

Thought it had some merits, but I know the novelty would probably wear thin. Just thought it could be good fun.. Might make this into a poll, see how many would listen..

I was offering a commercial slant - no overheads? - Time is money buoy!
It probably does have merit. Just not to me. I like this medium because I'm in complete control of what I read/listen to. I detest talk back radio for the opposite reason.

time is money? 5 second PM to have it mentioned.?? see what ya mean
    nah, I do, seriously.

I'm not one for talkback radio either, but I thought it could be a good idea to have a few weekly topics to cover, any specials, big rides, new peeps, b'days, and some music thrown in for good measure. Wouldn't be much more than 30 mins a session. Probably be around 20mb.. try to make it less..

I may be missing somthing here, but in order to get this podcast you have to be on a computer right? Why not just log onto the site and get all the info the usuall way?

you can/could.. but what about putting a few voices to it? or while you work, or in your car or something like that. Or resting up in bed..
Some people don't get time to read thru everything and might miss some goss or something more valuable. Other things like events etc could be plugged to ramp up more interest.. or any other ideas anyone else has/had. It'd be a broadcast for everyone

Sounds good to me. I believe itunes can only be played on an ipod tho. I have an mp3 player. They only play mp3, WM & wav.
Maybe the computer will play them, but maybe only macs.
    Sneeky macs!

iTunes is software for the computer, and it's very much on PC too, so it doesn't matter what you've got. Everything can play iTunes. And you don't need an iPod to use iTunes either. Don't know about other MP3 players and iTunes. Not been able to try, so can't really say for sure.
But the 'radio' cast is just an MP3 anyway, so download it and do what you will with it..
