    Yamaha RD50

Interested in finding a mechanically sound RD50 to do up. Ideally want it to be running sweet so I can use it as a road vehicle. Preferably with all panels and no dents, but scratches and faded paintwork are fine as I intend to paint it up.

Anyone got one lying behind a shed or know of any around?

Haha! I had a mate back in the mid 70's he had a RD50..bloody thing pulled mega revs, 18000 if I remember correctly. Long thin fuel tank, orange in colour. Quite quick for a 50!

They sound like awesome machines. That's why I'm on the hunt.

    Anyone got one?

Lol, I just sold mine about a week ago for $900.

Check out my profile pic to see it.

    She was a beaut.

P.S I know this was an entirely pointless post. Just thought it was ironic. I think you were the one who commented on my profile and said you wanted a bike like mine, too ..

I dropped it an a crankcase cover split. I kneaded it up, but then the clutch started slipping.

Sat in the garage for a while as I sorted other vehicular dramas out (flipped a Commodore).

Moved out, now have a double garage all to myself. So I planned to do a little work to it. Fix the clutch and get some new crankcase sidecovers.

I got carried away. Removed the engine from the frame last night. Taking the rolling frame to the soda blasters tomorrow. Will then take it to Kiwi Race Cars (aka Grapham Berry Race Cars) and get their opinion on swingarm modifications. I have a NC30 single sided swingarm lying around, and I know someone with a triumph swingarm that wants to sell it. The NC30 has the same size wheel, but something wider may be better suited for the power it makes.

Will also talk to Kiwi Race Cars about cutting off the subframe and replacing it with something sleeker.

Was thinking about getting a new crankcase to replace all the knead it. But then I realised I'd be wrecking the bike's character. That munted motor is the soul of the bike.

So yeah, it hasn't been forgotten. Gonna take some time. But I don't have a playstation at this flat to pull me away, and only get to use my flat mates computer occasionally, so the bike is my main form of entertainment.

Also have the Aprilia on the mend, but that's the one that requires megabucks. So I'll get a part for it every month or so, but commit my time to the GSXR.

Invercargill. That's a doozey of a road trip right there!.

I flipped my RG50 from stationary at a stop sign when I was a young'n. Revved it up and dropped the clutch, forgetting that I had Craig "Fatty" Porter on the back. The c.o.g was definitely behind the rear axle and we both ended up lying on the road with an RD50 on top of us.
