    Coaching/Mentoring in Auckland?

Just wondering if anybody does this?

My aim is to race (clubmans first, then, depending on how that goes, whatever else next). I'm slowly (slowly) getting myself up to race pace. I've done all the California Superbike School levels and attended numerous track days now, but I feel that I have plateaued somewhat. I know I can go faster (and I am getting faster in small increments) but I'm not making the leaps and bounds I did when I first did CSS. Also, I think I really need a hand understanding bike set-up; particularly suspension.

I went to Hampton Downs today; and today the 'fast-medium' group (in which I've just started being a regular in) and the 'fast' group were combined. Now, I know it's good to ride with riders faster than you, as that helps you get faster yourself when you watch their lines and try to match their corner speed and whatnot, but the speed at which the racers were passing me — and where they were passing me — completely blew me away. Literally and figuratively.

So, yeah, I'm just wondering if anybody here knows of anyone who does coaching or mentoring in Auckland.

These are the guys you want to talk to - a box or two of beer goes a long way too.

Just pick and choose who you follow, wait till the warmer months and you will likely see some national riders practising.

Just practice what you learnt at CSS, there are lots of people out there that mean well but they can actually give some bad advice.

Watch GPs and then get someone to video your riding, work on riding the bike correctly then all you have to do is brake later, let the brake off earlier and get on the gas earlier....

If your still not fast enough blame your bike

Thanks fellas, you're probably both right. Just keep doing what I'm doing (which is what you suggested, Chop) and try to buddy up with some of the faster guys who don't mind having a chat.

Yeah this is a good point. Keep in mind what you learnt at the school. Just because someone is fast, it doesn't mean they're carrying a lot of bad habits with them.

Race craft is a whole other thing all together, learning where to pass and how to pass. Talk nicely to a national rider

Put away some pennies now and do level 4 of the school again this summer. If you go there with an idea of where you have problems, you'll be able to take better advantage of the advice and training.
