    6 to 12 volt ignition

    Stupid question time.
I have a motor that has a poxy 6 volt points ignition that I'm trying to build into an F5 bike.
I know that in the long run the answer will be to chuck a 12 volt total loss CDI ignition at it but to get it going in the short term I'm going to stick with points.
Question is this, can I take a CDI type 12 volt coil and throw it into the system with a 12 volt battery and have it work with the points. I really don't want to run a doubly weird 6V total loss setup with a much smaller battery that I'm not sure will last the distance and that I need to get a new charger for, since the one I have is only really designed for batteries from the last two decades.

What's the points gap? My only concern would be arcing across the points as they break, but then cars ran 12v points systems for decades and I doubt the design and materials are any different on the bike.

The other component would be the condensor, if fitted, that may not be rated high enough.

.... back in green and feeling great ....

The points will handle it.no sweat - condenser - the bigger the better, a cheap Bosch from Supercheap is a good bet.
Coil - CDI coil no - TCI coil yes...people swap these terms around regardless.
If it's got two inputs and ohms up around 3 or higher ohms you're good to go.
