"Multimillionaire philanthropist Gareth Morgan is coming to the rescue of Happy Feet, the stranded and desperately ill penguin.

Morgan said that if Happy Feet survives, he would take it back to Antarctica on a Russian icebreaker.

The Kiwisaver provider is leading an expedition to the Ross Sea on the Spirit of Enderby in February and said Happy Feet and a Conservation Department minder could come along for the ride.

Happy Feet was welcome to jump ship if it met other emperor penguins along the way, Morgan said.

Well I put all that aside and look at the ill penguin getting a second chance.

Mind you look at the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and how I think it was also 2 penguins got rescued and given a second chance only to be eaten by a killer whale not long after being released back into captivity.

Oops just contradicted myself...

I know you said you were in a cynical mood but I see a good deed in need of doing and someone stepped up to the plate. If only poor people were allowed to do good deeds and acts of kindness then we would all die waiting.

I'm grateful he's helping. It might only be one penguin but that's no reason to not try and help a suffering animal.

Wait a second folks. Gareth Morgan - multi millionaire - his private company is managing nearly two Billion in investments. The guys got money. And some Clues.
so he latches on to the publics need for a good samaratin story, one thats not been repeated 20 times since Chch EQ. Something that might make headlines....and get him some media attention.

He found a good one,,,and its costing him sweet fark all, relatively speaking.

Now if hes been stepping up and puring in some money (relative to his worth), or other resources to the Chch rebuild, or something like that, then I will take my hat off tot he guy, and thank him sincerely.

But helping a Penguin?
I know people are needing some nice 'feel good' stories in the media. But theres some better causes that this out there that need our attention.

And Im all for helping animals....Ive done two trips to the Auckland Islands moving DOC stuff.....theres some good work being done there. But. Priorities...

You're missing the point a little I think. He's going anyway. He's offered to take the fricken penguin. A man of his wealth and high public profile probably doesn't give a flying fuck if the media reports it not.
