Pyro: I'm not sure if it's still there, it was on the bridge side of princes wharf

I saw in the paper today that there's a doco on 1 tonight telling the french side of the story

Has there ever been an official apology from the French Government over the bombing of the Rainbow Warrior? As far as I'm aware there has not.

At the time of the trial there were rumours that American inteligence were aware of a bombing attempt of the Rainbow Warrior but because of the Labour Government's position on nuclear energy this information was never passed on.

When the two French opertives of SAS were being held there was a real fear that the French Government would, for want of a better word, 'spring em.' I understand that there was a military prescence at Paparoa.

    Any confirmation on this?

Never have forgiven the French for what they did here. And yes it was a terrorist act in every sense of the word. Someone died as a result of the bombing and in my mind this sent a clear signal to those that opposed French testing in the Pacific; get in our way and you may die. That is the message that all terrorists proclaim.

An apology admits guilt, and as the French govt claimed that the operatives were working on an 'unofficial' excercise I guess it'll be a very long time, if ever, we'll hear the wine guzzling surrender monkeys apologise.

Greenpeace arent perfect but at least they try to get the attention of average joes with regards to issues which would otherwise be widely ignored. They have got big without having the expertise to manage it properly. The world is a far better place with them than without them.

it was quite hilarious, the only French guys we didn't let get away got sent to 'prison' at the delightful locale of French Noumea. and served 1/3 or so of their sentence before being shipped back to France, where they rejoined the French intelligence service...

    Red neck,who me ??
    Probably by some peoples standards.
Green peace is against a lot of things I do both for fun and as a living,I don't just drive a truck. So if stating the obvious makes me a redneck so be it.
Besides that, when the shit the poms dumped in the north sea thirty years ago begins to leak,we're all going to find out what a waste of time it all was.
Might as well enjoy what we have now an not worry about what yet another group of greenies are dreaming about, because it ain't gonn'a happen, the clock is already ticking.

Strictly hetro, but in this - I swing both ways. I'd like to see the environment protected yet I like NASCAR and loud exhausts.

I'm also a grandfather and would like the little tackers get to see the Great barrier reef etc one day.

I like what greenpeace has done with whaling and particularly conservation in Tasmania.

It sounds like a different experience to the NZ one.

The French did spring 'em, they just threatened Langes Govt with a trade war and they folded.
It's a tough, cruel world out there. It seems that we haven't learnt that yet. We even think there's such a thing as free trade.
And if we condemn the French for what they did to Mururoa, we'll have to do the same to the US and UK. We even went to those tests to let them irradiate our servicemen.
That's the problem with hypocrisy, it leaves a stench that lasts forever.

I'm not opposed to some of the ideals of greenpeace, but christ I hate the unwashed hippie degenerates that seems to make up their membership.
I dont think I've met a single "greenie" whos not a dope smoking brainwashed leftie whos rebellling aganist mummy and daddy and in general is a complete and utter waste of oxygen.
They are also anti nuclear which looses alot of points with me. I'm a firm believer that NZ should have nuclear power generation. Greenpeace would have us all only using solar and wind power, and paying $5/kwh on our powerbills.

Hi, my name is David and I run a small but successful design and advertising agency.
I'm self employed, have raised a family, have grandchildren and have never received social security.
I'm quite well educated and my peers say intelligent - I've also voted green and supported environmental issues for the last 20 years. I suppose the ponytail gets me a pidgeon hole? But I'm a greenie. It's part of the reason I ride motorcycles and don't own a car.

Nuclear is wrong. Five mile, cherynobyl, and just the potential for an enormous disaster - plus the global shit fight over waste - Wait for fission.

Hi - my names Biff, I've an MBA, a Masters in Microelectronic engineering and some other qualification that chicks assume makes me qualified to view their ‘bits’, although its in a totally different subject matter to the one that they automatically assume I’m qualified in. I have short hair, shower at least once a day and pay my membership, on time, to GP every year. I also have a day job, several in fact, and earn above the national average. I don't smoke pot and I'm not a leftie, although I did once tell my mother I wouldn't wash up after dinner. I even trod on a frog once just to see what would happen. I’m such a rebel.

You've probably met dozens if not hundreds of 'greenies' in your life. In fact, and I don’t mean to alarm you, but there may even be one within walking distance of you right now. But you tend to ignore them because they’re far too normal to fit your sterotype.
