Yes he did...in 2007 when the Ducati hit the (800cc) ground running, both were clearly superior.
08 he finished second but won some decent races.
09 & 10 the Ducati went down hill fast and he finished 4th both years behind Rossi (eh Pete)
No doubt Stoner is talented to get the wins he did those years but the boy could'nt develop a hard-on on at a porn shoot.
Lucky he moved to Honda when he did, after all these wilderness years I think they have finally admitted to themselves the lesson Rossi left them for.
the rider has a role in developing and fine tuning a bike, cant do much if the die is already set by the factory. To illustrate this fact see how the best team in motogp is developing the bike. The same bike they said they could fix in 80 seconds and that the problem was the rider wasnt trying hard enough.
Stoner is no mug and Rossi can't walk on water. Pedrosa and Dovi are not angry enough.Spies has the focus to go all the way and stay there. Simo is just a big ball of energy and I love to watch him race on instinct.Jorge is a class act but loves himself. Everyone else is there to fill the grid. I'd rather watch Maverick in the 125's.
"That's rooted!! What's next??"
Wasn't Stoners idea to use a carbon frame either! Don't really think you can blame how bad the Ducati is on him.
Lucky he was so crook in 2009, else these numbers would look a lot worse for the others...
"Casey Stoner is the most successful rider of the 800cc era. Since the 800cc motors were introduced at Qatar in 2007, where Stoner celebrated his first premier class victory, through last weekend's Italian Grand Prix at Mugello, Stoner had won 27 races. The majority came in 2007, when he collected ten race victories en route to the 2007 MotoGP World Championship.
With a brilliant start to this season, the 25-year-old Australian has continued to add to his tally. Through the first eight races Stoner has four wins, a second, and two thirds. The only time he's failed to finish on the podium was at the Spanish Grand Prix in Jerez when he was knocked out of second place early in the race.
Stoner has been called the fastest rider by a number of his peers, including team-mate Andrea Dovizioso. His five poles in eight races bear that out. But now that the 800cc era is drawing to a close, we thought we'd get Stoner's thoughts on the move to the 1000cc era."
