Thread: Argh fook another FXR

  1. #16
Hey now dave, just my two cents worth.
My first statement is pretty bold, but if you weigh it all up I think that is why most people end up with the 250 Al frames. Sure there is nothing wrong with a steel frame, but as you say it is a matter of what was developed long enough to now be cheap enough to bucket.

Not the absolute best handling or lightest frames, but there must be a reason so many people do it.

And I am by no means an expert but if I sit behind my keyboard I feel like one.

it has been somewhat of a wgtn phenomena, although there are one or two TZRs popped up in Chch.

They are lighter than the FXR, supension options are not limited to special builds, the frame cost me what I would have paid for a yss shock and 1/2 of the price of a RT Olins special build. I brought a R6 shock out of the USA for $13.95 USD and will bolt straight in. There is one other TZR in chch and I rode it 2 seconds a lap faster than my FXR that already had better wheels and front end. The TZR are a good size for a middle age fat bastard and you would struggle to get a FXR donk into a RS125 frame.

Its harder to lose weight than gain horsepower.

You wouldn't struggle, you just wouldn't fit one. 4 strokes you see, aren't real racing engines, -heck they barely make acceptable lawn mowers. But in the right application like stationary pump or backup generator they can find their niche.

But Dave, I have been toying with the idea of fitting a CBR150 lump into my 97 RS chassis

post 95 with the wider frame rails you will, however when you consider the finest 4 stroke bucket chassis known to man is a GN125 you just wouldn't bother with the RS

I would of taken offense to this post last week, but on Monday I spent some quality time on rangi at the track. I discovered the attraction you crazy folk have with the twos.

Do you know what the spring rate is like on the r6 shock compared to the TZR?

yeah ok well taken out of context that is a silly statement, I was just pointing out that wtgn is not representative of all racing in the country.
