Do bikers' clavicles break due to direct impact or is it more from their arms and/or shoulders smashing into the ground?

I remember somewhere a while back (maybe just before the winter olympics) they were talking about these for downhill skiers, but they couldn't find any parameters for them that indicate a definite crash, or enough that wouldn't set them off all the time.
I think the closing comment was something like as far as dainese (i think) was concerned downhill skiers were in a constant state of crash, just occasioanlly they ended up at the end with their ski's pointed the right way. classic
