    Non-manifold = not "solid"?

As in there's a gap between adjacent surfaces somewhere?

I used to get regular commissions from people importing, say Pro E files into, say Solidworks with exactly those issues.

It can be frustrating sometimes, but usually it's easy enough if tolerances haven't been fuckt with in the translation...

Just to give u an idea. Where its pays off is when , say you are prototyping something , or proof of concept , where u want to get it right first time ( hence my use of cardboard and balso models ..as I am pretty good as screwing something up !!!)

With the use of open source FEA , CFG I can do MOST of the testing refinement on the computer , then print , then send to a place like this http://www.emachineshop.com/ same drawing ....works out quite reasonable ( except the time , all that postage )

I would love access to the the ones the F! teams use ...they print whole engine block ...

Just they are a tad expensive .......

Emachines shop - good tip off - their software is easy to use even for a MS paint ludite like me. Do you know what its based on? I knocked up an intake mouth in under an hour - needs more features though and the shipping costs to me are more than the cost of the parts.

Every other open source CAD software I´ve downloaded bamboozles me and it takes me an hour to draw a simple box. Was thinking of downloading a cracked Adobe Inventor.

Cad for linux ..... draft sight ..2d usable ...Varicad cracked ones available but pay per view good though all the rest ...crap ..if u know of a good linux 3d cad program !!!

I wish there was something like solid works for linux ..

As for the shipping ...Ive had that many times .. a sticker 45 us .......... shipping 45 us ,,for a sticker ...something tells me there is profit in there !

but , when compared to guy down road , they work out for me a little cheaper and easier

May look a at QCAD and LbreCAD for Linux. They have excellent reviews, anyhow. One has a pro version that is supposed to be well done . These are free. I haven't used them yet but downloaded them for an upcoming project. Might also check this link http://linux.softpedia.com/get/Science-and-Engineering/

    That's a screen dump from Rhino, http://www.rhino3d.com/

There's a free download on that site, fully functional except you get just 20 saves. I used to set some of my clients up with a "no saves left" copy just so they could open and review my work but not mess with it.

Question: Would the opensource "Blender" not work for what you are doing if configured properly?

Thanks for the Rhino link , I'll check it out.
