Motorcycle crash victim identified

A man who suffered the loss of a foot in a motorcycle crash Thursday night has been identified by the Montana Highway Patrol as Pete Hofer, 75, of Three Forks.

MHP Trooper Brian Inman said Hofer was northbound on Lincoln Road (Route 279), around mile marker 32 just north of Flesher Pass in scattered rain amidst patches of wet pavement when his Honda cruiser motorcycle went down on its right side and crashed into the guardrail, badly injuring his left leg.

Inman said neither drugs nor alcohol were suspected in the incident, and Hofer was not cited.

Hofer was wearing a helmet that took damage on both sides.

“The helmet definitely saved his life,” Inman said.

Hofer was airlifted to Benefis Health System in Great Falls where his left foot was amputated early Friday and he remained n good condition.
