If the cats not running a fever and seems happy enough to rest at home, I would wait a few days. Probably just fall off very soon by the looks, and the cat will pull/mouth at it daily when he cleans

Take him to the vet...the tail is a prime place for infection which can easily lead to gangrene. Lost a kitten once from an infection which set in from a burn on the tail.
A course of antibiotics would be a minimum IMO.
