Chicks that ride on the track - opinions wanted

Is it wrong to be posting in the ladies section? Oh well I've always wanted to get behind the scenes.

Anyway... my girl is coming off her restricted soonish and has told me she wants to get a new bike. She is just starting to get into track days so wants a proper sports bike for road and track. She doesnt like naked bikes or 'halfway bikes'. She's on a budget (no more than 4k - like that is the absolute max with no room to move), but wants something that she wont grow out of straight away. Something that is fast around the track that she can grow into.

What have you girls had? What is too much/too little? I was thinking a VFR400 or CBR/ZXR, but would be interested to see if anyone has had an older 600.

Oh a side note, a pretty nice CBR250 will be coming up for sale soon!

I'd say you'd be able to pick up a pretty nice SRAD GSXR600 for that sort of coin.

You reckon? There are a couple on Tardme that have been there a while. How do you think it would go for the purpose?

As good as anything you're going to get for that money. Unless you feel like a 250 two stroke.

Well I have one of those that she's gonna use occasionally, but I feel a two stroke is probably not the right bike for a non-mechanically minded lady. Hell its probably not right for me either but man that shit is fun.

But anyway, I have heard that those old gixxers were good on the track. True?

    Nothing like learning bro!

I learnt a little when I had my rgv and I don't think you could ever grow out of a 2 stroke!! I find working on a bike cos it's something new and interesting

I have a vrf400 for the road, it was my only form of transport for a while but did ride it a few times on the track

But again depends what you are into, I still haven't quite grown out of racing a 150 2 stroke!

yep I'd second the Gixxer 600... I once had a 96 gsxr750 srad, AWESOME on both the road and track. A slightly bigger heavier bike though it required a bit of body weight to chuck it around hehe :P

Are there many 96/97ish ZXR600s out there going for cheap? They'd be primo, same again though a more 'bulkier' bike. It's not really until the mid 2000s that sportsbikes started shrinking lol.

those early Honda CBR600F's are brilliant, the F2/F3's should be cheap as chips. I picked up an F1 for just over 1k years ago. They make great horsepower.. infact back in their day they were the leading 600 sports bike and better than any of the other 600's of that era.
plus earlier generations are steel framed, they take a massive punishing on the track, I learnt alot about falling off on mine. So she can track it and crash it and keep going.

you won't get bored of it, and if you run a sweet exhaust like I had (no muffler action) they sound great.. thats my little 2 cents

I just picked up a tidy 1998 GSXR600 SRAD with 60,000km for $4k. The owner gave me just over $2k of receipts for work it's recently had, and it came with a pretty much new tyres.

That's a good deal. Care to sell it to me for a slight loss?

How big (tall/heavy) is she? It'll make a massive difference to what she can/should ride...
