Well, it is about time that bike shops in Nz woke up to the fact that there is competition, in todays marketplace. This afternoon, I was shopping in an Auckland Arai dealer. Looking seriously a purchasing a new helmet. NOT trying before i bought off the net.
Now I don't want to purchase off shore, but on the other hand, if I can save $300-$500, why not? Anyway, I spotted a nice helmet, bright, eyecatching and an Arai. so I asked how much. $1300.00 was the reply. So I proceeded to tell him all about buying out of the states, similar helmet, landed here for around the $900-$1000.00 NZ mark. We had a good, discussion on the pros and cons of such a purchase, he was great and honest with his opinion.
I then asked what his sharpest price was. After a few minutes he came back and said $1000.00. My question was, why did he not say this to start with. Or even $1100.00. Why so dear? I mean, a saving of $300.00. Who is rippin who off? Is it too much to expect a decent deal in NZ? Or do we have to remind retailers that there is real competition now?
Am I being too hard? Should I suck it up and just pay? Or should I expect an honest deal, for an honest dollar?
