    Racing exotics?

Whats the go with the likes of Ducati 1198, RSV4, RC8R etc racing in NZ? cost aside, do they not achieve homologation or is something else stopping them from being out there racing in NZ? e.g lack of distributor support or otherwise? They would all make a great platforms to develop from

I always wondered if a Ducati 999 would be reliable for racing? Do they generally blow up?

The Middle Eastern models have a tendency to go bang, but generally only extremist tuned examples.

having just returned from about a month in the USA, yes, I have looked at that. If I was going to buy a brand new race bike, Id seriously consider buying in the USA and shipping over, it would be purchase plus shipping then go racing. Id also consider it for a road bike too. I have the numbers somewhere for buying from the USA a brand new left over 2010, or 2009 R1 still on dealers floors, shipping it here, and getting it legal. Youd save fucking heaps. The only thing stopping me from doing it tomorrow is the fact that I dont have the money in the bank. If I did, Id do it in a heartbeat.

Hmmmm, hard to think of any reason to run something erotic, oops exotic, unless you just loved the bike and cost wasn't an issue. It's not just the price of the bike but also the spares, wheels etc that you inevitably need.

An 1198/RSV4/S1000RR is gonna be a similar price to this:

    ....and it'll be slower.

But you would get more racing opportunities with the exotic, so it wouldn't all be bad news....if you could afford it.

I was watching World Superstock from Brno last night and was surprised to see the 1198 keeping up with the BMWs on the straights. Top four result was two BMW and two Ducati.

I had to look up the World Superstock rules, it appears basically nothing in the engines are allowed to be modified, if I'm not mistaken?

Also, no change of suspension linkage or triple offset etc.

    Rule 2.7.8

I was a bit surprised by the 1198's performance.
