Huh! Was just looking at the cover of Just Bikes (Aust. Bike trader mag) and right there on the cover is a CB400F for A$8,750. Maybe NZ$10k isn't so bad after all!

this is still expensive at $6k isn't it? didnt they have gearboxes made of chocolate?
but at least it isn't $20k like last time.

1. $6K is very expensive for what it is - plenty of cosmetic restoration to be done. Paint, badges, woo hoo...Yes, a good one could be that, but this ain't a good one, by my standards, anyway. Neither original nor looking like it, and that's where the money is.
2. The early ones lost 5th gear - I think it was - if the gearbox oil wasn't kept right up - original spec for 1300ml, for the GT500 raised to 1500ml, as lots of people were running in them by then anyway.
3. By the look of the pics, bugger all's been done mechanically, either.
i had one in the early 70's.Learnt to do burnouts on it.Apart from the odd clutch cable it never gave me any grief.Replaced it with a 550 and learnt how to replace the middle piston in the kitchen of a small flat with little more then a crescent and a screwdriver.
Never too old to Rock n Roll.
