    Thumbs up Rear shock for ZXR250c?

    Hey guys im looking for a shock just bought the bike and learning to ride but theres a few things i wanna sort out before summers here one of them being a shock absorber im 90kilos so the dicked old shock cant keep up it bottoms out pretty severly any help would be greatly appreciated

    Cam chains noisy aswell pretty common occurance by the looks help on buyn one and a tensioner also!

    Rear shocks are non adjustable but should be fine with 100 + Kgs if working correctly, I would think after 20 + years of use its due for replacement, they are non serviceable so can not be fixed, I would put a re shock from a zxr400 in they can be rebuilt if the seals go and are adjustable they fit straight in , my rase the rear by a few centimeters but are fare better than the standard
    They are about $200.00 from a wrecker new replacement "standard' shock is $500.00 +

    No no no

    The stock shock is woefully undersprung for a 100kg plus rider. Anyone who fully understands suspension, motion ratios imparted to suspension, leverage imparted, loading dispositions etc etc will concur. And just because a shock is ''adjustable'' doesnt mean that it can be magically adjusted with those external adjusters that many think have a response range INFINITELY WIDE to suit the bike it wasnt made for in the first place. External adjusters only adjust internal bypass bleed and will not magically ''change'' a shocks charcteristic to suit a different installation that imparts a different motion ratio. Shocks are NOT one size fits all.
    Sometimes you get lucky but when you are playing with your safety and that of other road users in your vicinity then I think such a simplistic approach is uncredible.
    There will come a time and not before time that suspension has to be certified as suitable for the model its intended for.

    I was recommended the ZXR 400 shock by a shock specialist in Wellington! On their recommendation I replaced the rear shock on my toy, told the mechanic when getting a wof he thought the rear gave better "feel" and was more "supple" than the standard shock, as you are in the trade I'm shore you would agree the standard shock is less that Ideal. Even 2 up the new shock is superb

    Yes sometimes you get lucky. What concerns me are the many unreported instances where an alternative is tried and its way less than ideal / unsafe. But people may still continue to ride on them regardless, either through economic neccessity or ignorance.

    ok well if you hopefully get luck with a 400 shock im keen on trying one , the shock in the bike now is tragic damn near anything has to be an upgrade!! if anyone has a shock for sale id love to here from you condition not such a big deal as long as i can have it rebuilt to a standard spec

    I totally concur with this post

    After years in my own workshop and running them for franchise dealers,I now thankfully do NOT have to deal with Kiwi number 8 wire types who wanted me to fit shocks from an ABC into an XYZ just "because it will fit,I got it cheap and a mate says it will work great"

    Any critical component such as a shock absorber is not"one size fits all"and I hope one day,like Mr Taylor has stated,that enthusiastic fiddlers who love shoehorning bits into places where they dont belong will be stopped before someone gets killed,if they havent already.

    zxr 250 shocks can't be re built the zxr400 shock can
