    Ex-partner's daughter graduated from Uni...

So as a gesture, I log on to Amazon and order her favourite chocolates (Champagne Truffles) and have them sent directly to her.

Assuming that the deal was done, I then didn't expect this:

    Hi,

Thanks for placing your recent order with us.

As you have purchased an alcohol based product, we are required by law to ensure that we do not sell alcohol to persons under the age of 18. As you have not entered your date of birth at checkout we will need some confirmation of this before we release the order.

To do this, can you call us asap please on 0844 922 1010 and we can verify some security details with you, which should hopefully rectify the problem.

If you are unable to call us, you will either have to fax or email us proof of ID for your order to continue. This could be a copy of your passport, birth certificate, full or provisional driving license, Citizen Card or other recognised proof of ID card. If you are faxing us any documents, our fax number is 0207 1971279 or you can attach a scanned copy in reply to this email.

Alternatively, if you can call us and pay for your order with a credit card we can process your order immediately, as these are only available to over 18's and negate the need for more checks.

We are unable to process your order until we have heard back from you.

    Kind Regards,
    Christina

    What's the problem?

They're an alcohol product. The law says alcohol has an age limit.

Unless you're secretly under 18 and lying to us??

Is it an alcohol product or is it an alcohol flavoured product? It doesn't say and there is no cautionary warning. If you ate all seven of them in one go, I doubt it would be the miniscule, if any, alcohol content that might affect you.

So unbelievable was the content of the message that it made me I suspect it was a phishing scam

you'd be surprised by the result.
actually, if you eat just a pair of liquid center truffles you could well be out of the limit on the breath test.
this is a huge problem, as you obviously are not drunk at all, but since it test your breath and not blood concentration this is what you get...
you eat something without liquid center prolly need to 4 or 5 to get done, but in my case it's a quantity "affordable" with no doubt...

With shows like Target so popular businesses have to be careful these days. You could be an undercover shopper...

All sorted now. As I bought through Amazon and not directly from their website, I don't now need to prove that I am over 18. Their mistake

BUT as I am shipping these directly to a third party, surely they should also need proof that the third party is over 18 ?

Perhaps best I don't raise this issue
