Anyone here know about kitset offices?

I want to plonk a small office down on my property, and was looking at some kitset options - but am getting lost among sites and searches.

So does anyone have a suggestion for (or experience with) a Wellington-local source?

I was looking at this one - until I found it seems to be Auckland-only: http://www.kiwikitsets.co.nz/sc-cabins-xidc69087.html

Now I am not recommending these guys at all... but they do have what they call office that you can buy. Very basic, but it really depends on what you are wanting.

A couple of things you might also want to know.
The Building Act states Under Schedule 1 (exemptions):
    (I) building work in connection with any detached building (except a building that is required to be licensed in terms of the Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act 1996 or a building closer than its own height to any residential accommodation or to any legal boundary) that—

    (i) houses fixed plant or machinery, the only normal visits to which are intermittent visits for routine inspection and maintenance of that plant or machinery; or

(ii) into which, or into the immediate vicinity of which, people cannot or do not normally go; or

(iii) is used only by people engaged in the construction or maintenance of another building for which a building consent is required; or

(iv) does not exceed 1 storey, does not exceed 10 square metres in floor area, and does not contain sanitary facilities or facilities for the storage of potable water, but may contain sleeping accommodation (without cooking facilities) if the detached building is used in connection with a dwelling:

So basically you can build a shed/office less than 10 square meters and more than its own height away from a boundary (and everything else in (iv)) without a building consent.

    Thanks for that.

I'd seen references to the schedule 1 exemptions, but no specifics. The "closer than own height" to boundary thing I saw in an example, but in no specs - so thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, I followed various links from the WCC site, but got confused.

Are there special rules for setting up a home office? I looked (also) on the WCC site and didn't see anything. I'm just a programmer, so all I'd be doing is typing; and there'd be no visitors. (Must buy you a beer one day...)

    Headbanger - thanks for that.

From memory, I don’t think you would have any issues with undertaking that sort of business at home. It is more directed at commercial ventures that make bad smells, mess, lots of noise.. etc..
