    Smokin zx10!

well me bikes up on rear stand now and has been since the end of May( rego on hold), all locked away in the shed. its connected to a battery maintainer and starts first time no worries. i have been going in and letting it idle every few weeks for 10 minutes or so.

now today i noticed that there is thin smoke coming from the front after a few minutes from where the chasis meets the forks, but i cant see its origin. it gets more intense with time but is still light grey in colour and not dirty black smoke. it does not smell like plastic burning or oil. not much smell at all really.

there appears to be no cables near where the smoke is coming from

Could this just be dust that has settled over the last couple of months burning off the engine or manifold? the temp gauge was only on around 70 deg C and the engine was running smooth.

could it be somthing to do with the bike running whilst on the rear paddock stand?

    any ideas you knowledgeable lot?

    thanks

maybe........its weird because the bike was washed and put away in the shed almost 3 months ago. i reckon it could only be dust...........or a dead mouse or somthing, but that would smell and there is no smell.

I would go with dust/grease rather than anything being wrong with the bike, if you haven't done anything to it over that time. I have an air cooled single, '81 SR250 and if I leave it sitting with the engine on for a while it starts cooking up all the grease and dirt and smoking from around the exhaust manifold.
I guess you could take it out for a ride and see if the problem persists

Are you sure it not steam from the radiator, coming from condensation that has built up in the fins?

You do realise that running a bike up to temp just sitting there idling isnt exactly good for the bike.

With cold starts you get a lot of blow by contaminating the oil and can cause more condensation (water) in the oil.

While letting it idle up to temp (water) that won't be enough to get the oil hot enough to evaporate off the contamanates as it would in a normal ride.

I'd sugest changing the oil before your summer riding.

1 third kero, 2 thirds water, spray it onto the dreads if you get a rocket fuel rush the mixture is too strong .... oh wait wrong thread !
A girlfriend once asked " Why is it you seem to prefer to race, than spend time with me ?"
The answer was simple ! "I'll prolly get bored with racing too, once i've nailed it !"

    Bowls can wait !
