That's cool, if only they had done it for the pink and white terraces...

Didn't somebody propose recreating them a few years ago?

Werner Herzog did a movie about the Chauvet cave... in 3D I believe although I've only seen it in 2D.

    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1664894/

Lots of the caves have these circular depressions in the floor where the bears used to hibernate... I love that kind of stuff... and the Dordogne in general.

Heard a bunch of stuff about them finding them again a few years ago, can't recall any attempts of recreation though. I reckon it'd be a goer, get some chemists to figure out how to speed up the process, and start off with a concrete base, plenty of beautiful mineral pools still up there so I guess the water is still good for it...

    Lasers weren't that common then.

Somewhere around here I have a fucking enormous point cloud from a survey of Jewel cave in the US, courtesy of the same FARO systems.

True, was more posted to give a bit of perspective. Bit hard to put a price on preservation...

Then again, if there were no lasers back then, nobody would know if we rebuild it a bit wrong
