    Explanation of the Greek Bailout.

It is a slow day in a little Greek Village. The rain is beating down and the streets are deserted.

Times are tough, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.

On this particular day a rich German tourist is driving through the Village, stops at the local hotel

and lays a €100 note on the desk, telling the hotel owner he wants to inspect the rooms upstairs in
order to pick one to spend the night.

The owner gives him some keys and, as soon as the visitor has walked upstairs, the hotelier grabs the

€100 note and runs next door to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the €100 note and runs down the street to repay his debt to the pig farmer.

The pig farmer takes the €100 note and heads off to pay his bill at the supplier of feed and fuel.

The guy at the Farmers' Co-op takes the €100 note and runs to pay his drinks bill at the taverna.

The publican slips the money along to the local prostitute drinking at the bar,

who has also been facing hard times and has had to offer him "services" on credit.

The hooker then rushes to the hotel and pays off her room bill to the hotel owner with the €100 note.

The hotel proprietor then places the €100 note back on the counter so the rich German traveler will not suspect anything.

At that moment the traveler comes down the stairs, picks up the €100 note,

he states that the rooms are not satisfactory, pockets the money, and leaves town.

"No one produced anything", "No one earned anything".
However, the whole village is now out of debt and looking to the future with a lot more optimism.

And that is how the bailout package works!
True - but had that note been interest bearing (pick any %) - the debt would continue to accumulate long after the note and the rich German had left!

Thatcher made secrecy pact with Saudi king over ‘corrupt’ arms deal... Iron Lady? No! Just another in a long line of twisted cunts... kinda hardly surprising that the right whinge revere her so much given that they reflect her character.

That is what you transactional banking ..... the above would work fine ... and is what some people have been saying ,

But as oldrider points out, some old Babylonian trick was copied , and if applied to the above , by the time the jerman arrived back he would have had only 41 Euro to give back to de jerman ( greeces long term interest rate is around 12 % )

So the Island needs some QE and some asset sales to occur then Greece would be debt free to the bank and minus 59 Euros worth of assets

May the shwartz be with you

    Poor old OTTO

Throughout his reign, Otto was unable to resolve Greece's poverty and economic meddling from outside powers. The politics of Greece of this era was based on affiliations with the three Great Powers, and Otto's ability to maintain the support of the powers was key to his remaining in power. To remain strong, Otto had to play the interests of each of the Great Powers' Greek adherents against the others, while not aggravating the Great Powers. When Greece was blockaded by the (British) Royal Navy in 1850 and again in 1854, to stop Greece from attacking the Ottoman Empire during the Crimean War,

I wonder WHO financed old otto !! Capt Red shield to the rescue !

Almost unnoticed, in the niches and hollows of the market system, whole swaths of economic life are beginning to move to a different rhythm. Parallel currencies, time banks, cooperatives and self-managed spaces have proliferated, barely noticed by the economics profession, and often as a direct result of the shattering of the old structures in the post-2008 crisis.

You only find this new economy if you look hard for it. In Greece, when a grassroots NGO mapped the country’s food co-ops, alternative producers, parallel currencies and local exchange systems they found more than 70 substantive projects and hundreds of smaller initiatives ranging from squats to carpools to free kindergartens. To mainstream economics such things seem barely to qualify as economic activity – but that’s the point. They exist because they trade, however haltingly and inefficiently, in the currency of postcapitalism: free time, networked activity and free stuff. It seems a meagre and unofficial and even dangerous thing from which to craft an entire alternative to a global system, but so did money and credit in the age of Edward III.

Funny, I'm merely one of "Millions of people are beginning to realise they have been sold a dream at odds with what reality can deliver." whilst coming up with an alternative. Millions of us and growing every day ..
