“Top of that list of vested interests has to be tax havens. Although they are currently legal, they serve no social purpose. These jurisdictions – characterised inter alia by high levels of secrecy and low or no tax rates – are fuelling the rise in inequality. As tax returns from wealthy companies and individuals disappear into this global network, governments are left with two options: cut back on the essential spending needed to build healthy societies and economies; or make up the shortfall by levying higher taxes on those less wealthy. Consequently, wealth is redistributed upwards, and the inequality gap grows.
Tax havens siphon billions from rich countries. But it is in the poorer countries where the impacts are felt most dramatically. Wealthy Africans’ use of tax havens cost African governments an estimated US$14 billion ($21.7 billion) in lost tax revenues in 2014. This is enough money to pay for healthcare that could save 4 million African children’s lives a year and employ enough teachers to get every African child into school. Just because it’s legal doesn’t make it right.”

How much more would NZ have in the kitty if tax havens were outlawed and people/companies had to pay tax in the country they earned the money?

Absolutely. On the back of off-shore taxes they're thriving.

Multinational domestic earnings are whatever they say they are, they just assign material and off-shore overheads until they're happy with the cross border results. Like Aus multinationals charging Head Office overheads to NZ entities until there's fuck all profit in NZ on which to pay tax. You could make rules to limit that, but they'd be so tortuous and convoluted they'd open up far more loopholes than they'd plug. We need to wait for the current international tax law agreement negotiations to come to some sort of unilateral conclusion, if we tried going alone we'd have fuck all industry by lunchtime tomorrow.

We also need to gang up on multinational monopolies to stop them gouging off-shore markets, that's potentially costing us more than any less than optimal tax rules.

I was going to launch into a negative along the lines of

    wtf are u on whillis

    but them interesting graphs

    Prosperity is fading s
and has been since the turn of the century

    Here I agree

I would say since the mid to late 1800s

but then wealth of the 1% hmmmmm thats a long bow to draw

None... because they'd all fuck off elsewhere, apparently. Too big to jail, then get your buddies to change the law.
