Well certainly most here see the difference between a politician stretching the truth for political advantage and your rabid fantasies, the first at least begins with at least a tenuous grasp of the facts.

And yes, I saw that. Doesn't include many subsidies though, so I've little doubt the 55% claim was valid. Either figure is a sad indictment of Kiwi work ethics, that over half of the population are net beneficiaries. Even more stunning is that some of the less literate of 'em claim that rich pricks are getting richer at their cost.

How many people do you know that unreservedly accept statements from politicians? And "the media" have their own politics, which revolve mostly around interpreting political statements as outrageous propaganda. So wrong on those two anyway.

The real problem is that we actually require our politicians to lie. Hire 'em for just that purpose, based on how well they lie at their three yearly job interview. You can expect that to change when people grow up enough to realise that the no government is ever voted the resources to deliver what the voters think they should provide.
