I've ignored both the Trump impeachment proceedings (and vote), as well as UK election results. Others are monitoring those side shows.

I see that Don has supposedly "signed off in principle" on the "phase one" agreement relating to the US-China trade war. But we've been here before, so we'll wait for tariff deadlines to pass and for the ink to hit the page first, and then look at what was finally agreed. Under the circumstances, I'd expected Australia to be setting aside funds for projects to address water supply and address environmental issues.

On a separate note, Australia has had a relationship with NATO since 2011. More recently, NATO has been talking about extending its reach into the Pacific (to ring fence the Chinese), and there were some preliminary discussions with Australia back in August:

Perhaps they see the "Chinese threat" (whatever that might be) as being more of an existential threat.

But with Cape Town in South Africa having recently come close to "Day Zero" (regarding supply of residential water supply), I would have thought Australia might be more focused on its own water and environmental security.

I hope that we don't seeing Australians sailing across the Tasman and coming to NZ as "economic refugees" when the water runs out ...

If the Aussies were that bad off they would be sailing tankers over here to take our water which we are practically giving away anyway.

And with regards to NATO. I approve of this because imo Australia needs a WAY bigger navy and airforce than they currently have to protect not only themselves but US aswell.
If we dont have to pay much of anything for that protection well.... im not complaining.

Indonesia alone has something like 150million people and if they became an aggressor which imo is highly likely in the next 50-100 years given who runs the place we should be prepared for that.

All China has to do is have a military pact with Indonesia and get them to do the hard yards for them.

Honestly NZer's and Aussies need to wake up.

With such intelligence and business success on tap, you'd have thought that they could have supported the shop owner and his "friends"... but there's no money in that. There is no such thing as a business community, just business that happens to be located in someone else's community

Well there is the argument that he's going to help them multiply.

We dont need Auckland to be like San Fran with homeless shitting all over the streets. Kebab meat is not going to help that situation.

If he only does it at xmas time I have no issue with it though it sounds like he's been doing it for near or over a month. So the other business owners have valid concerns.

Best reaction would be to find out who is on the business association and start a campaign to shit on their doorsteps.

And that is exactly why the situation continues. Those with don't help by trying to solve another part of the problem that the kebab guy is. Instead they roll out the trite platitudes and big brush the problem under someone else's carpet. What you resist persists.
