Gee there's a surprise - shutting down of industry and transport has resulted in less pollution!

And Greenies think it should stay like that, don't worry about goods not getting made or delivered, no jobs for many people etc etc.

    Good luck with that dream...

And how else do we address Earth Overshoot?... the inevitable outcome of which will make this virus look like a holiday before the main event. You takes away too many resources and you have less to sell, no goods getting made let alone delivered, no jobs for anyone other than what there is resource for, to the point of suicide/genocide/ecocide... but sure, more jobs is a great thing on a finite planet.

Don't worry, the Greens don't address that either. Tis why they fail.

This public service announcement was brought to you by the Broken Regord Frowndation.

    EU Unity

With Covid spreading across the European bloc, it has been interesting to see how different countries have chosen to handle the challenge. With the impact on national economies, there was earlier call for a multi-lateral approach.

    https://www.ineteconomics.org/perspe...ultilateralism

But I see it was announced overnight that the EU now has "a plan" (for how to assist some of its members whose economies are in distress), but that they are still struggling with one small component (how to fund it).

    https://www.france24.com/en/20200423...ess-toll-soars

    https://www.dw.com/en/coronavirus-la...ils/a-53213299

You'd think this wouldn't be an issue after earlier (rousing) speeches about "European unity" , and the repeated politicians chorus that "we're all in the same boat together".

Perhaps it depends upon which end of the boat ? When the Italians say "the boat is leaking water, and we're getting wet feet" while the Germans and Dutch say "we're already leaking money, and we're getting cold feet".

Perhaps they will have to wait until the water starts to reach the EU economic "engine room" as well, and the whole boat then settles on an "even keel" (then they can all sink together, but do so in unity).

The puzzling part is that there was never this much trouble when the US was stumping around Europe late last year, requesting NATO donations to "help keep everyone secure".

    https://www.rt.com/op-ed/475871-nato...agon-spending/

Surely it's just a question of political priorities. And the "right packaging and marketing".

Maybe the EU just needs some-one to help them prioritise. And to apply the right spin. Like the US.

I mean, they don't have any issue with their political priorities. And spinning like a top.

And they're flush with cash, from what I can see:

    https://www.rt.com/news/486709-usaid...ase-diplomacy/

But Don, as we said before, it is kind of you to offer some financial assistance (re Greenland), but we still have only two words to say in reply.

They all struggle with how to fund it for a reason. They still believe that such "packages" need to be repaid. For some reason it's really really hard to inject money into an economy, just coz it's needed. It's like it breaks some immutable rule.

This goes back to when Theresa May was Home Secretary, but it's also another failure of leadership in the Brit army. They are starting to mount up.

Pritti Patel the British Home Secretary was boasting proudly that shoplifting statistics were down. During a shut down.

Pritti is a dim bulb as are most of Boris's cabinet picks. He doesn't want competition.

Here's a humorous look at her abilities.

    Not without cause.

There was a clip of a panel discussion where she was advocating for the death penalty. Somebody else on the panel raised the topic of innocent people being executed in error.

"We need a deterrent," replied Ms Patel.

"You're going to execute innocent people as a deterrent?"

Cue laughter all round. She is a joke. Albeit a sad joke.

Facebook to be Available in Africa

Seems that the worries of civil wars over resources, scratching out a meal and the risk of Covid will soon be a distant memory.

Now that Africans continent-wide will be able to Facebook one another, and check out if their news is "fake". That'll help keep those Chinese and Russian interlopers honest.
