This most recent effort was not the first apparently. US Defence say it's the fourth. The first three happened while Trump was in the hot seat. How he kept that quiet I have no idea unless this one was much bigger. Even at some 60,000 feet the balloon was plain to see.

Maths is not your friend now is it..
160-2000 KM is a Low earth orbit satellite they cover a orbit in 4 hours they move freaky fast
12 km is the height of the ballon it moves slow.
this ballon is the size of three buses the average satellite is less than 7 meters long
The balloon is also cheaper and has a bigger payload.

Use of a Sidewinder is interesting - as it's a Heatseeking missile - either there was something quite toasty on the balloon or we are able to infer some interesting capabilities of the Missile.

    The video looks awesome too.

On a tangent though - does this count as an Air-to-Air victory/kill?

Not so much 'stupid world' as stupid Montana.

A state politician in Montana has proposed a law banning all theories from science as taught in schools. Only scientific 'facts' may be taught. There goes Einstein, and more to the point probably, there goes Darwin.

This will likely mean that no kid attending a school in Montana would be able to get a place in any university science course without a load of additional tuition. They will just not be able to pass any exams that would get them considered for entry.

Hopefully the rest of the politicians in Montana will understand the problems inherent in this and it will fail, but I wouldn't bet on it.

A theory is simply an idea used to account for a situation ... or justify a course of action ... or in a principal.

    Nothing "Scientific" about them.

And for every so called "Scientific" explanation ... there are exceptions. Exceptions that cannot be fully explained ... but theories still remain about why there are the exceptions.

The biggest issue is when a theory is believed to be ... or taken as (scientific ??) fact.

This is meant to be tongue in cheek but I hope Luxon doesn't read it, he'd probably adopt it as policy. The item has been prompted by comments made by the Chairman of the Tory party in the Spectator that he is in favour of bringing back the death sentence.

You should definitely take that up with the scientific community then and correct them huh...

A scientific theory is an explanation of an aspect of the natural world and universe that has been repeatedly tested and corroborated in accordance with the scientific method, using accepted protocols of observation, measurement, and evaluation of results. Where possible, theories are tested under controlled conditions in an experiment.[1][2] In circumstances not amenable to experimental testing, theories are evaluated through principles of abductive reasoning. Established scientific theories have withstood rigorous scrutiny and embody scientific knowledge
Simply an idea huh? Nothing scientific about them right?

T'was but a year ago that this happened: Biden vows to stop Nord Stream 2 pipeline to Europe if Russia invades Ukraine

... but but but he didn't mean it ... coz murca never fabricates shit to justify war, cough cough Iraq WMD cough cough... sorry, must be that flu thing going around that everyone's taking that even the manufacturer admits is useless despite their testing and govt assurances that the opposite was true. Who needs science when you have authority.

"But Germany has stopped short of explicitly promising to halt the $11 billion Nord Stream 2 project, which would bring Russian gas to energy-hungry European consumers. On Monday, Scholz said only that his country was “absolutely united” with the United States and other NATO allies, “and we will not be taking different steps.”

Biden, in contrast, told reporters at the White House that “if Russia invades, that means tanks or troops crossing the border of Ukraine again, there will be no longer Nord Stream 2. We will bring an end to it.”

Asked how he could be sure, since it would be officials in Berlin, not Washington, who would make the decision, Biden told a journalist: “I promise you, we’ll be able to do it.”"

    Ahhh. Well done Mr Casey.

Google's Bard AI bot mistake wipes $100bn off shares

Ooooo that's an expensive mistake to make. Ooooo that's more jobs that Twitter got rid of. Oooooo the reality of tech unemployment biting home at the hands of Programmed Interface. But it's ok, it's a good time to buy, coz things can only get better... almost as if it was more profitable to have it fail before succeeding .

A theory is an unproven idea.

    Fact is KNOWN fact.

Any community that presents theories ... thusly declare them to be (as yet) unproven. Regardless of it being highly likely to be an actual fact.

Nevertheless ... they are still theories.

One famous theory was ... the world was FLAT. People left and fell off the edge. Never to be seen again. It was quite some time before that theory was disproved.

No doubt even you have had theories ... that you found later to not be correct.

    Bugger eh .. !!!
