Just what Maori rights do you think are going to be taken away??? Luxon was right to say he doesnÂ’t know what this protest is about. Yes a lot of bad stuff happened in the past and itÂ’s National who signed some of the biggest settlements ever.
As far as I can tell they are just upset that National won and the free ride with labour is gone.
Despite being 17% of population they only got 3% of vote. That tells you a lot of Maori likely voted for Labour and the Greens.
I think a lot of Maori will be embarrassed by this commotion about nothing
Today Maori have equal rights as any other nz citizen and in three years time they will still have same rights.
We have a rapidly aging population with a poor health system. Labour tried to bring in a race based que jumping system and people wonÂ’t be forgetting that in a hurry.Never mind trying to give away the water infrastructure that we already paid forÂ….

Leaving aside the "Giving away the water infrastructure" dog whistle, Three Waters was an acknowledgement that the problem is now too big for local bodies to manage on their own. The proposal was howled down and, as expected, this is the result: https://newsroom.co.nz/2023/12/02/wa...pay-the-price/. Next step - sell the water to any of the large overseas companies that are just waiting around like vultures

In an effort to buy votes Jacinda waved the treaty wand and sprinkled fairy dust everywhere without taking time to consult the country about what it all mean. Govt depts and media instructed to take into account the treaty etc. well I’m sure they were already meeting their relevant obligations before that. Anyway it’s created a climate of confusion about just what influence the treaty should have.
All David asking for at the moment is for the country to sit down and study what does the treaty say and what does it mean for all. Because you have an English version and a Maori version and there are discrepancies in the translation/understanding of what it says. This kinda makes sense as if you’ve ever read older literature you’ll find even in English 100 years ago people spoke and write quite differently.
The activists out there are making out like it’s going to be ripped up but that will never happen. It’s about gaining an accurate understanding of what the contract (treaty) intended for both people’s.

I love the dog whistle insult, it shows the other person has no proper counter to the statement.
Winston won’t let them sell the water.
Well likely get public/private partnership joint ventures to get roads built but you won’t see water sold off I mean we can’t even agree yet who owns it…
BTW labour was one of the biggest sellers of state assets.

No mention of the employers obligation here hopefully work safe has a go at them. Obviously no fatigue management or random drug checks going on.

1/ Who was planning on "giving away" the water and to whom? But thats a sure fire way to rile up the rednecks, so, dog whistle.
2/ That assumes Winston will still be there
3/ P/P partnerships like the one tht did Transmission Guly? Huge cost overruns, delays, major reworks, still not complete, etc. Sounds good.
4/ Labour asset sales under the direction of Douglas/Prebble, the founders of ACT, your "Davids" (are you really on first name terms?) spiritual leaders

Some of our more inbred local councils apparently. IIRC Ashburton sell water to China at a very fvourable rate. Favourable for China.
The Canterbury plains used to have some of the highest quality water in the country, but somebody thought it was a good idea to put dairy farms on the plains.
Ah well, it was nice while it lasted.

And TIME magazine's person of the year is... Taylor Swift. The MAGA crowd are not pleased. Normally a pop star wouldn't upset them but she said publicly that people should register to vote and tens of thousands of people did. Although she had long kept her political views private, more recent comments indicate she leans left.
Ms Swift's music has never graced my turntable. I know she managed to piss Kanye West off some years ago and probably Trump more recently. Kanye West is another artist I've never heard. It's OK I'm mostly stuck in the 70s and I like it there.
A social media commentator recently received a communication questioning whether any heed should be paid to the political opinions of Taylor Swift and Pink. The communication referred to both as teeny boppers. Ms Swift is mid thirties. Ms Pink is mid/late forties. Presumably they are old enough to have opinions.

Happening all over the place. As National decided no-one "owns" water, no one can sell it. Councils are charging fees for resource consent and so on but the takers are getting the water free of charge eg "In this case, consent to bottle and export 580m litres of water would cost the company around $2000 a year, the price of a resource consent monitoring fee."

Nothing lasts forever… Someone’s done the maths (a this is from a pro ev outfit)and by 2040 the worldwide grid needs 80 million km of new or replacement transmission lines to meet the demand.
Guess we won’t be stopping digging big holes in the ground in a hurry.
