    Lightbulb Saturday Morning 'Activity'

Before Saturday's ride was hijacked (pt) Buggy and i had discussed doing a few photos if the weather is conducive.

I have some new toys and am still up for that - even if we stay in town.
There are some locations in the Domain - or we could head out west a bit and see what we can find - if you would like a nice pic or just come for a burn.....

I propose the original meet up at Mission Bay car park 10.30am Saturday - weather permitting.

If anyone knows a good corner with sight lines - please.

This is the Domain spot I'm thinking of.

    oi!
yeah, I'll come along.. been meaning to catch up with ya at some point anyway

Depends on how much traffic you want around at the time, there's a few decent corners on the main road heading to Mission bay from the city... but that might be tricky/dangerous with all the other traffic, if it's busy.. We could keep cruising round the coast line if you want.. then just stop if you think you have somewhere

This sounds like good fun, but I can't make it.

Just wondering what kind of setup of camera / lens are you using? Were the above photos photoshopped for the blurred background and lighting?

    Have fun guys.

Problem there is if we want the view/scenery in the background the sun is on the wrong side - that's why i suggested head west - waitaks maybe - plus you are riding that easterly direction next day.
But I'm easy - we can make it up as we go. see who turns up.

there's always SH16.. plenty of sweepers and scenic backdrops.. also cops in unwarey places. But we won't be doing anything naughty, so I'm sure we'd be fine..
On the old north road, there's a nice 'S' sweeper that's just been repaved. Sheltered by woods, so you should be able to move around to get the best lighting/shade. Some good knee-down shots may be..?

Shame - we have some common ground - next time.

Konica Minolta Dimage A200 and I just bought the telephoto converter lens attachment for it.
    All here
    http://konicaminolta.com/products/co...ge/dimage-a200

I went this way - rather than the more accepted cannon choices - because it's more compact that the SLR's and fits in a small shoulder case that is no drama to wear when riding.

8mpx and good opticals - with the converter it given me a 300mm equiv.

The only photoshopping on those pics is some 'unsharp mask' - the speed blur is from slowing the ASA right down - ASA 50 - using a 1/125 shutter and panning with the bike.

Wow, you need a steady hand to PAN that well!!! I have a Nikon D70 and I have a 70-300mm lens, I just don't seem to be able to get such shots with the PANNING. I find that the focus changes because the distance between myself and the bike is changing. I end up having to photoshop the blur in to the picture.

The lighting for the above shots seem to be just nice as well, sunlight isn't too strong! I have to try dropping the shutter speed to about 1/125.

    A200 has ANTI-SHAKE technology, awesome!!!!

    Thanks for the info..
yes - it was quite overcast.

try focussing on the piece of road where the bike will be at where you want to make the exposure first - before it gets there - then lock it or use manual - then pick up the bike at a distance and pan/follow it to that point you've focussed on and Schnappo!

I also went for the 8mp so as i don't have to ba as tight with the framing either. Just crop 'em later.

(i have been adding DOF to digital shots in PS for years too.- shhh)

If you slow down the shutter speed for blur, your aperture will need to be smaller causing your DOF problems. Solution = less light in. Depending on your camera, you may not be able to reduce the effective "film" speed enough. So a ND or polarising filter will help with DOF.

thanks - 'twere all me own work - I have been practicing.
the telephoto lens is an effort to get even better DOF like the Lou Martin shot of me on the Street Rod.

(And have to say - nowhere near as cool as directing a feature film! That is the nice one)

    These are quite low res:

Exactly! - I'm now (Like saturday) trying to find that formula for minimum DOF and maximum speed blur like the Street Rod shot above.
I've even found some calculators on line - but bit hard to access in the field on a bike.

Trouble is the telephoto is 86mm and a polarising filter is a quite expensive.

'Experience is a good school but the fees are high' - glad it's all disposable nowadays.
