    ACC covers helmets?

So I was told today by a guy (not a biker, but has biker friends) that if you get a certificate from a doctor, you can take that and your crash damaged lid to acc and they'll provide for a new one (to the same or probably lesser value)

Is there any truth to this? It would be pretty nice as I need a new lid

    Do you have insurance?...
Should be covered in the policy.

I believe it is yes, but if the repair job is less then the excess this could be an interesting solution

    I'd be surprised.

But having said that, one of ACC's strategies is to make sure that people aren't aware of what they can claim for.

When ACC was governed by the Woodhouse principles and long before it used an insurance model, that was indeed the case.
I veruy much doubt that it is now.

Reckon it's worth a shot. If nothing else it's a free helmet without having to file an insurance claim

ACC don't cover it. And the truth to the story is this.

In the case of an accident, you get quotes to replace all your gear. You then give this to you contents insurer and they cover replacement.
In the instance when you don't have contents insurance, and you are not in the wrong then the other parties car insurance covers the cost of replacement minus depreciation.

I had the latter happen. It was great.

ACC cover people and rehabilitation only. I could not even get them to cover a slip mat in the bath when I got done.

I don't think that is correct. ACC help with housing modifications, and I even heard recently of them having to buy a car for someone.

The fact that you didn't get a slip mat from them doesn't necessarily mean you weren't entitled to one. It might be because you didn't use a lawyer to get it.

Wow. You would have to really want to prove a point to go that far

I am fairly certain we can come up with a great compromise, between lights on my bike and a helmet on your head...

    Yeah but a helmet.

Wouldn't you have to make it look like your a retard to get one. In which case how do you prove to them that you can ride a bike.

Modifying a car or a house is a bit different from "I need a new motorbike helmet". All they will do is turn around and say "How does this fit with your injury and your rehabilitation into the workforce".

    ooh! pretty.....

thanks for the offer but I think such a cool looking helmet would be wasted on me.
My next helmet is going to end up looking like this So awesome graphics and aerodynamics are out of the question. I'm looking for the cheapest helmet that I can get a gold visor for.

and whats happening with the lights? it's been ages!

I thought Prick Smiff and his cronies aready thought we were... ergo we should all be able to get a free crash helmet
