Exactly what I was thinking too. Paparoa rd through to Whanga'z and then up Old Russell Rd is a good fairly direct route I reckon.

Yep random rides are wicked but when it's your first hoon up there I do recommend at least going up Old Russell Rd and catching the ferry over to Opua...ride through to Waitangi....Puketona Junction and then right up to Kerikeri.

Keep your wits about you, stretches of the road have been in shade for weeks & have the green bastard growing down the middle of each lane, particularly from Rawhiti turn off to the Opua turn off & also around Helena Bay (good cafe their for a break & a view).
It's hunky dory though, the Twin Bridges road has it's winter coat growth too in places. Still lots of road to go "Weeeeeeeeeee, Zoooooooooommmm" on & way betterer than SH1.

We have a new Curry house & new Thai restaurant in Paihia if Kerikeri is shut. The Indians in Kawakawa is good too, even by Pommy standards.
    Have a great run.
