You decide whether I stay or leave?

    Dear all,

I wrote a thread yesterday called "Pathetic horns!!" It was all about how bad horns are on bikes I've owned. I had not once mentioned the "G" word and I was quite enjoying the discussion until Mr Hitcher for some reason quoted this:

Now I know how some of you react to me posting scripture but when someone else does it there seems to be no problem, especially when it is done to intimidate me.

To top it off, 6 posts later I get this offensive post thrown at me from Mr Jackrat & backed up immediately by Mr Jim2:

Now, I don't think that was at all necessary and if that's the way I'm going to get treated here by the Senior Members then I'm outta here.

But I'll let you all decide in this poll.

You descibe you're biography as follows:

"I'm a happily married Christian who loves the Lord. Even though motorcycling is awesome and I love it, NOTHING thrills my soul more than my Saviour Jesus Christ and the life which is in Him! If you want to know what I'm talking about please ask )"

If you stick to your original philosophy then I don't think there should be any problem. However if you choose to exercise free speach, others will use their right to exercise their free speach against you.

Like you say let others come to you, and that way I'm sure you'll be a lot more accepted.

    Zed,
The temptation to say something about reaping what you have sown is irresistible. Nevertheless reading between the lines I feel your puzzlement and pain. What you may not understand is that quoting scripture (however well-meant) and evoking God and his commandments indiscriminately and irrelevantly suggests a self-righteousness that causes many people to get their backs up. You made the mistake of investing too much of your personal and private beliefs in these posts. Putting up a poll as to whether you should stay or go is not the right way to solve the problem either. A re-think, change of tone, some apologies (from both sides) and a fresh start would be a more positive approach...

    Zed,

I think you need to wake up and smell the coffee sunshine!
You repeatedly quote scripture in your postings either to make your point or in retaliation to others. When are you going to use your own words to justify your actions/defend your corner/present your opinion, rather than rely on the words of an as yet unproven 'deity' I'm fairly sure that christian is not another word for fuckwit, you have a brain and I'm sure you know how to use it. I'm also farily sure that you must be able to understand that constantly ramming gods words down the throats of people who have consistently made it clear that they aint interested is going to tick them off, in much the same way that if I constantly denied christ in every single one of my postings, you'd get pissed off with it too.

EVERY MAN, WOMAN AND CHILD(even traffic wardens) have the right to hold a belief or opinion they do not have the right to ram that opinion down our throats at every available opportunity(well they do but a smack in the gob often offends) Personally I find some of your posts quite entertaining, especially in the response they draw BUT IT DOES WEAR A BIT THIN AFTER A WHILE.

I do question your seeming inability to live your life without the constant aid of your belief, life is not that hard, really it isn't and if it is then for fecks sake pull yer head in and sort yourself out, the ONLY thing that limits us in this life is ourselves.

My take on your poll is this, you feel unwelcome yet rather than make a decision to leave or stay you put that decision into the hands of others, this displays an inability to take responsibility for your own actions and is a trait often seen in "true, devout believers"(of any faith) and gives rise to the infamous "god made me do it" and on that basis I refuse to vote. You should consider your actions and what has brought you to this point, examine your motives and decide if you are willing to stay or go and act accordingly.

    Stay

I like what MikeL has to say above (don't expose too much of your person). & petethepom Don't keep ramming it down peoples throats, I notice that you have toned it down a bit, lately. (pete has a point about him not condemning god in each of his posts).

This is in general a M/C site, I got no objection to God being talked in the off topic areas (which you have done). If I am not interested, I will not read it or post to it. Not hard to do. (Posts dry up anyway).

If people can't tolerate you, no problem let them put you on their ignore list.

But you got as much right to be here saying your bit as anybody.

I say Stay! ...The world needs more colour, then I gets more to comment on...

very well said pete. i too could not vote on this, if we say stay - it's 'oh they like me, they're my friends', if we say go, it's 'those kiwibikers are a bunch of unaccepting closed minded heathens......'

    no win situation really

I think Hitcher was having a joke, like bike horn, gods horn....Yeah?No?

It would be a shame for you to leave feeling 'got at'; sometimes people just respond to the red flag that was waved... Not just at you, but at any difference of opinion.
If you don't like it, wave a different flag.
Thats the beauty and the beast of the internet....you can say what you like from behind a keyboard.

People are pretty black and white here and speak their mind freely and easily, Like you have......
This site is pretty bloody good in a lot of ways, I don't think you have been here long enough to see it all, and meet the people. Maybee Mitch will invite you to her next BBQ? We're not all bad bastards you know.....
    Stick around.

If as I suspect I have insulted you,Then I apologise now.
I would like to think you will stick around and we can carry on without
religon being raised. The subject is just way to sensitive for a place like this.
Bikes on the other hand,I would like to hear anything you have to say about.

Mitch is in Welly now I do believe.... care to take up the challenge George?

Interesting to hear that religion is a no-no here on this board. Way to sensitive? Bikers and religion... never thought it'd be such a touchy subject.
Personally I feel kinda discriminated, being a christian and all.

I'm not the type to go round blabbing to everyone about religion, as I do know how people don't like it. But still... if you don't like it, then don't read it... how hard is that to do?

    Well said Ant!!!
Everyone has the right to their own beliefs, it's just a matter of keeping everything in check and respecting the fact that the person you are talking to may very well see things in a different way.
If we were all the same the world would be a bloody boring place to be!!!!
CAN YOU IMAGIN IF WE ALL RODE THE SAME BIKE'S?
Spankme has brought together a huge variety of people by starting this site and many of us have got to be quite good mates. That doesn't mean we all share every opinion we have.
It does however mean that everyone has their turn with their ass on the block................ even you by the sounds of things Zed!!
We have all been there and laughed about it in the end. Don't make to big a deal about it.

And yup i'm a Welly girl now Ant but I still have lots of room for people to stay so I hope to see some of you Auckland boys and girls at the next gathering of the KBers.
    Miss ya already
