Help! I need a new muffler

Went to go for an early morning ride this morning and FINALLY found where the annoying tick on my bike is coming from, turns out the arse has rusted out my muffler, no wonder its been sounding ratty lately... Now being such an old bike a replacement muffler's pretty hard to come by it seems after trawling trademe for the last hour or so, so what do I do? Mate's brothers rebuilding his bike for him and just built him a new exhaust for his GSF250, using a factory muffler from his TL1000S, tuned it to suit and its running mint and going and sounding a hell of a lot better than factory. Surely I could do something similar with my bike? I know its not simply a case of throwing a muffler at a bike and hoping it'll work, however i'm not keen to sell my bike off with a hole in the muffler and if I cant find something, then surely my only option is to adapt something else? Would I be able to fit something, factory or aftermarket, from a bigger bike and tune it to suit? Even a shitty trademe special would surely be better than what I have? Any help would be great as induction and exhaust on a bike is still very much a black art to me

You could just buy one... http://www.bikebitzuk.co.uk/suzuki-g...96-p-1487.html
This one's for 90-96 model, not sure of year on yours but if it's earlier this may still be easy to adapt?

Could do I'm going home in October for 3 weeks actually, might be worth waiting and seeing what I can bring back with me... Mine's an 86 so im not holding much hope, that exhaust you linked looks quite different to mine, my link pipe's straight, it doesn't have the bend like that does... That said all I need to replace is the can.

If I can't find anything off the shelf... trademe special?

Been looking on tardme, some not bad deals on some good gear...

So if I was to go down the route of having a can from a larger, more modern bike fitted (professionally, by a mechanic who knows what hes up to and that i have complete trust in), would it be a case of simply jetting the carbs and tuning to suit or is there much more to it than this? Frustrating 'cos I have the bike listed for sale, and its costing me money... ah well at least someones gonna be picking her up without issues

Coming from the guy who spent how long building one?

I second that though. The pipe diameter and length should be tuned, but for the muffler, about all you need to worry about, is get a similar diameter one to the pipe.

You might get lucky enough. My ex had one built up one at her old work for her GSXR400 out of ally sleeving & perforated core & it still runs fine. Ironically I used the old one on a loaner XJ750 which was noisy as all hell. Later encouraged by all this I ran one side of a GSXR1100 engined touring model thingy welded on my GS1100 with nasty 4-1. Worked a treat, was quiet, didn't affect the power so far as I could tell & looked factory, even with Suzuki written on the side.

Well, thats encouraging! Picked up a cheapy universal RPS bike muffler from pitstop of all places, I hate their car mufflers so hopefully this is better. Exactly the same length as my factory can, just a bigger inside diameter, so in theory, it should be a case of weld it on, make a bracket, and its done, right?
