Been there ... done that ...

It never hurts to ask though. Somebody in a hurry to leave a gas station ... often has a not so good reason to do so. And the forecourt attendant may have good reason to remember them.

Poppy day a coupla years ago I was selling poppies at a local gas station. A guy parked his van in front of the door and went inside to buy something. When he came back he couldn't find his keys. He looked everywhere, even took his boots off to check they hadn't fallen in there. The boss wanted to check my cash bucket since he had made a donation. We broke the seal under a camera - no keys.

Next time i was buying gas I asked if they had figured out what happened. After I'd left they had checked the cameras, a random guy walking past had just reached in through the open window, grabbed the keys, and kept walking.

Didn't help much, nobody knew who he was.

True ... I'd be getting a copy of the photo ... and flooding facebook with it. Then watch the comments. See who name gets tagged.

    Offer a cash reward for a name/address.

    Gets people talking ...

Yeah that's good. The guy who owned the van didn't particularly look like someone who would be able to put up a reward. I'm not so sure the thief was criminally motivated so much as he was just an oportunistic arsehole. His motivation was likely just to fuck up somebody else's day.

Occasionally we get somebody like that on KB. Thankfully not too many.

Just the mention of free cash gets some people talking. And then you mention Police want to chat with them too ... then they go away.
