Did I overstep an imaginery mark?

Many of you may have dared to take a look a rather disturbing set of photos in a thread I posted today. While my original post was loaded with warnings, some people, possibly out of insatiable/morbid human curiosity, continued to open the images and have since complained that I probably shouldn't have posted them here.

I guess the question is - Is it ok to post these kinds of images here providing that you all receive ample warning that you may be offended by the images, therefore enabling you to decide for yourself whether you'd like to see them or not?

While I fully appreciate that some people may be offended by such images, my personal opinion is that providing people receive ample warning then they can decide for themselves whether or not they wish to view them. Images of naked ladies appear to be acceptable by most people, but I'm sure that there are some people here that would rather not view them, and even find them offensive. If the fear is that minors may view the kinds of images I posted today, then surely the same principle applies to images of nude ladies, or guys for that matter, doesn't it?

I appreciate that I now run the risk of getting a severe ear bashing from those member of KB that found the photos offensive, but I'd appreciate some feedback from both sides.

    Thanks.

If one wants or needs to view such images they can do so at their own leisure. However My computer at home and at work has a blocking programme to exclude offensive material. I am by no means a prude, six years in the navy with porn of every variety being shown at breakfast while at sea, leaves little to shock me. How ever my children on the other hand have not been exposed to any such material in our home and I prefer it to stay that way.

Links to such sites would be blocked but the attachments even though I have selected R18 option it does not stop anyone from clicking and viewing.

If such posts must be made maybe just add a link to the site
These things tend to get a bit carried away if some constraint is not shown or expected.

Personally, I try to only start a thread if I feel it will somehow contribute to the site.

If I come across some new information that I think might be pertinent to members I'll post that. Likewise, if I've been for a ride and have some stories to tell I'll post that. If I've got a question to ask, or want to organise a ride, I'll start a thread too.

I personally find posts such the one in question irrelevant to the site, and it doesn't meet my criteria of what is a useful contribution. However there are a number of posts made that I consider to be frivelous, but judging by the number of replies other members disagree, and I believe the thread in question is no exception.

Biff, I personally have no issue with the piccies... but then my daughter doesn't even know how to turn this notebook on, and went to bed 5 hours ago anyway.

I can easily understand HR's view, though, and if perhaps I could suggest this as a similar case to an overcooked corner - in a touch too hard, looking at that rapidly approaching white line leading next to 12 inches of gravel, grass and a ditch/fenceline... but the corner opens just in time and you come out of it wondering WTF? it seemed like such a good idea 5 seconds ago??

Two results occur - you either realise that you got a little close to the limit there and perhap next time you'll approach it differently, or you think it was farking marvellous, can't wait to tell the boys how you nearly binned it doing some heroic act bla bla bla... depends on the individual doesn't it?

Shit, who am I to get on my high horse??!! I am not fit to pass judgement!!

First issue is that there have been posts here in the past headed by such warnings AS A JOKE. How is anyone supposed to tell the difference?
Secondly BB, there is a huge difference between nudity and pornography (and whatever category that one belongs to). From comments read here over the last couple of years or so, I would guess that few here have a problem with simple nudity (unless it is at work), but many have an issue with pornographic or sick images.
IMO if you feel a need to post stuff like this, there are many far more suitable websites for you to do just that.

There was plenty of warning! Me, being a naturally nosey person, still had to look.
Didn't offend me, but probably not the place for such a topic.

I chose to read the thread without opening the image.
That gave me a feel for weather it was bad, or just a joke.
Thankyou for the warnings. It didn't sound like something I wanted to see, so I didn't.

Haveing said that,, Theres enough junk posted on the site already.
My feelings are, That stuff is not needed or beneficial on KB.

I don't understand why you'd bother posting stuff like that. As innocent (and weird) as they may be I can just imagine the headlines if the general media got hold of the idea there were images like that on a 'biker' web site.

The question is - why bother?

Personally I can do without them, anywhere, but especially here. Thanks.

I chose to not look at the pictures, but did have a quick read of some of the content of the posts. Mind you, I wouldn't have bothered even doing that if I wasn't bored and trying to fill in a long and tedious day.

Personally, I don't see the point in posting stuff like that on here, as it doesn't add anything of value to the site, and if anything it tends to degrade the overall 'flavour' the site has as a (primarily) motorcycling forum. That's not to say that anything not directly related to motorcycling shouldn't be posted on here - in fact, I believe all kinds of discussions of non-MC stuff should be included. F'rinstance, there have been posts of a personal nature on here that have helped people get useful advice or allowed them to vent in a healthy way.

However, I think that unpleasant, sordid or otherwise objectionable material doesn't really benefit anyone, so it doesn't have a place here.
    ... and that's what I think.

    Or summat.

    Or maybe not...

    Dunno really....

Personally I couldn't care less. However as others have said, this is a site for bikers and as such is not really the place for these sort of images etc. Nudity & graphic images are fine in the context of getting a laugh or getting across a serious message (as in the Aussie Gixxer crash) but the one that prompted this thread is utterly irrelevant to anything that KB is about IMO
Do you realise how many holes there could be if people would just take the time to take the dirt out of them?

    Thanks all.
Although the pole has only been running for a short there is a definite split appearing, albeit a pretty much 50/50 one. As the number of people that have voted and stated views that clearly indicate a wish that they'd prefer I hadn't posted these images I'll refrain from posting this kind of stuff again. I'lve also removed the offending image.

But to all those people that looked, took offence and still whinged I've no sympathy for you whatsoever. What more warning do you need ? A forking flashing neon sign, rabid dogs guarding the thread & land mines?

Thanks again to everyone for your constructive feedback.
