O i do that's why I'm still alive. I have driven in AKL for far to long to think that because I have right of way means no one will pull out in front of me.

No, at the moment the red bus has right of way.

Both cars in the example ARE turning right. Yes, the bus has right of way - that's why the arrow indicating the bus path is solid... but that's how it is now. The new rule means it will be reversed.

The effect of the law change means the GIVE WAYS on the terminating road are no longer required. So the signs are redundant, as I said.

So from the video they are changing the rule because 19 out of twenty people get the give way rules wrong, 100% speed in 50 k zones...........apart from moped riders of course.

This is the only intelligent thing coming out of this rule change isn't it??? They're finally making it how it always should have been, the vehicle entering the road has to give way to the one turning off it.

You mean to say that isn't already the case???

The new rule is the same as here in the USA and works very well.
In the town I live in (about 80k population) we have very few uncontrolled intersections. The yanks like stop signs and the rule is 1st stop 1st go and that works very well too.
As for roundabouts, the town planners must have visited NZ as they have installed a lot of them but they forgot to educate the locals about signalling so they don't work as well as they should.

At uncontroled intersections (no lights,roundabouts,giveway & stopsigns.
If you are driving straight through you give way to straight though traffic on your right.
If you are turning right you giveway to all straight through traffic & all right turning traffic on your right.
If you are turning left, courtesy apllies,Get around without getting creamed.

Get with it ... you ONLY give way to traffic that has started/is moving BEFORE you do ... thats why people dont stop for stop signs ...

It's like this.
If turning, give way to all traffic not turning. Otherwise give way to traffic crossing or approaching from your right.

Its just the same as you would apply if you were at a roundabout (albeit with different indicating). Once this new rule change comes in it'll be inconsistent.

As I've said all along the only problem with the current rule is foreigners don't understand it. Once it comes in noone will be able to complain anyway as they'll all be stuck turning right somewhere forever.
