You hold her down, I'll stab her eyes out with a soldering iron. I'm guessing blind people don't have much of a problem with the colour of another persons skin... so she'll have one less thing to moan about.

    True!

I was thinking of Annette Sykes as the writer, rather than Margaret Mutu but in the long run they are probably pretty much one in the same voice!

You mean like in the mid 90's when we had a large influx of Chinese moving to NZ? Mostly buying properties in Howick and surrounding areas. They set up their own shops, restaurants, mechanic workshops, etc, spent the money they had, by immigration law, to bring to NZ within themselves, wouldn't learn how to speak English and generally not integrate with the existing society.
And didn't it piss off the large number of Chinese, some, 3rd, 4th, even 5th generation Kiwis, who were then lumped in with the newcomers and treated like shit, even when they were more Kiwi, than many of the "Kiwis" doing the bitching!

Why does it continue to shock and upset us that there are nutters with extremist views from all races, religions and any other group you care to think of. Let's be honest, they're the only ones the media are interested in quoting

Or you can just be like me, an equal opportunity bigot - I hate everyone equally, except when some are more deserving to be more equal than others! Pass the disparaging remarks and flavour it with some closed-minded, off-handed, knee-jerk reactions!

    Mmmmm, my favourite tipple!

People complain about immigrants not integrating into our society but people from other cultures bring what they know in order to make a living. I think society is all the better for it.

Besides that, I wonder how many of us really extend an open welcome to foreigners. A lot of people put language differences in the too hard basket and develop an attitude towards them based on their own prejudices that are reinforced by their friends and family.

Racism is usually the by-product of low intelligence and laziness. Are these characteristics New Zealanders want "Kiwis" to be associated with?

Works both ways - a fair number of immigrants don't bother to learn our local language and wonder why people think they don't want to intergrate....and then the immigrants themselves develope their own prejudice...

I have a new drinking game: every time one of these reports comes along, knock one back when you read the words "the minority". It's always only "the minority" who bleat on about race issues. Hell, we even got "the minority of pakeha who understand Maori issues" (or whatever the frig she said). Oops, off for another swig...
