Were you doing all the focus and exposure manually? Eg no AF/AE/Auto ISO etc (yeah I know I'm a pussy but I never was bought up the 'film way' ).

Nice shot that one... good to see the background moving but keeping the rider in focus etc! I suppose it comes with practice.

OK If you really want to know: (i'm waiting till I get the television for some cricket)

I waited at that corner for 15 minutes. There is a nice bench seat and a plaque dedicating the reserve. the sun was out and U2 were thumping on the iPod and I had already been out to the chippie and back - so it was just nice.

But when the cloud cover come over I paced out the distance from where i was sitting to the racing line and subsequently manually focussed at 21mtrs and locked it

I also manually set shutter speed at 1/450 when the sun was out and knocked it up down to 1/200 when the clouds were over. also manually adjusted aperture accordingly. (thats why i overexposed roo - first one can be hit and miss)

Then follow pan the target bike to the spot on the racing line previously focussed on - keeping the bike as still as possible in the frame - and schnap.

What i learned from today is that you can't rush picking the bikes up. Because there was so many I was firing before getting the pan in sync with the target and it gets fuzzy.

The ones where i took my time and targeted for more than a second were the crisp ones.

The idea next time is to make the group aware and ask them to space out past the location. - (if pyrocam could get any more spaced out that is.)

Tweaked 'em in photoshop, unsharp masked the fuzzy ones, watched 'em go grainy when i compressed them for the net, and you've seen the rest

You missed out last weekend... but maybe this saturday... What say you dave / other budding photo-grapher-type-types.
Lump lingered last in line for brains,
And the ones she got were sort of rotten and insane...
