No Roadworks main highway that I have seen, Haven't been a long riponui road in ages and ages, however its always normallly got loose stones/cowshit over it, will go check it out in the next week or so. Twin Bridges was however good the last time I came through it about a month ago.

I have a Magnetic Tank bag (its only 18litres and doesn't extend) that someone is welcome to use, and I have also got some oxford first timer pannier bags someone may like to try out for size I won't need them for this trip at all.

Its a bit wider than that but only if I wanna drive thru mud or into trees
There is a guy here in Whangarei that can do your basic handling if Auckland is to far, I know his first name is Lance but can't recall his last name or contact details. Newhere should be able to hook you up with his details though, thats who she used and he would come thoroughly recommended I believe.

    Hasn't that law been repealed?

From the Government web site it looks like it might come off next month:

The Land Transport (Driver Licensing) Amendment Rule 2011 contains a number of actions to improve the safety of motorcyclists, which will come into force in October this year or October 2012. These actions include:

    ...
Removing the 70km/h speed limit restriction for learner motorcycle licence holders.
    ....
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." - Benjamin Franklin (1706-90)

"I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending to much liberty than those attending too small a degree of it." - Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826)

The changes take place in 2012. Going to book in some time off for this ride next week.

The web site said "October this or October 2012". Has this been confirmed for the latter?

We dont ride at 80 everywhere. That is the maximum speed.
Our statement is 'A group ride with us means we ride as a group'.
At times (depending on the amount of bikes) we do stretch out a bit, but I slow it up so that those behind can catch up. Thats the nature of these rides. Its all about the leaner and new rider.
Now get ya shit together ok....

Sound advice there Rob...we all started at the begining once.
Thanks Maha, You will be pleased to know that I am off to Whangarei next week to get my "shit together" hahaha. I hope a Suzuki gn250 is easy to ride, I'm only 156cm tall, now just to pass

The GN is the easiest and most forgiving bike for this situation...even for someone of your height.
I was so taken with the Ginny that I bought one brand new before taking my BHS...
My BHS test was on a GN250 and after being giving my ''pass paper'' I couldn't wait for my bike to turn up...
Bling sent, you'll probably suprise yourself.

You will be absolutely fine, i am the same height as you and Lance's test bike is what I very first learned to ride on and I could touch the ground with both feet!!! Best of luck

Good to hear you're on the mend, hopefully your bike is all ok now to? Sounds like a lot more drama breaking your wrist than your foot, I was only in a cast for 10 days, then into the moonboot, but that only stayed on for a week or so. Then it was just hobbling around for awhile!

    But seriously enough injuries everyone.......

I have another 3 and a bit weeks in a cast then a further x-ray to see if it is mended. All things being equal, I will get the cast off then and start rebuilding strength. I have 5 weeks from cast off to the ride so I should be ok.

Sadly, I have broken 2cms off the end of my tibia bone, so it is 6 weeks in plaster for me

Bike still needs to be fixed. Broken right rear set and I can't get it off cause the way it has bent has seized the bolts to the brake lines.
